Whether you heard him on radio or saw him on television...you probably knew of, and liked very much, Ron Stone.

Ron died today after a long battle with cancer. We'll miss you Ron.

Who could ever forget the antics between Stone and Doug Johnson on KPRC? We have truly lost a legend today. Rest In Peace, Ron Stone. My condolences to his family.

What a voice! What a kind man!Yes he will be missed, even outside of Houston.

Some of the best moments on Doug Johnson's KPRC radio talk show back in the '80s were when Ron Stone would drop in (since it only took a trip downstairs he could drop in whenever) and the two would trade barbs. And their daily TV show was really local and usually very funny.

I first met Ron Stone when he took time out to help a local theater by playing Captain Hook in a children's production of "Peter Pan," which ran for a number of performances. I started out as assistant director on the show and it was hilarious watching Ron have fun hamming it up as Hook. Lisa Hartman played Wendy, IIRC.

The thing that so impressed me about Ron was how down-to-earth he was. He didn't require the star treatment during rehearsals or during the run of the show; he was kind and approachable to us teenagers and kids who surrounded him -- and probably annoyed him.

God bless you, Ron and family.

Had the pleasure of meeting Ron in the 70s during a couple of the MDA Telethons. He was truely a class act and has/will be missed. God Speed Ron.

Poops

Did anyone notice on Channel 2's website, in their first story about Ron's death, that he died of "prostrate" cancer?

Proper word usage still means something, kids.

I remember meeting Mr. Stone back several years ago during a taping of The Eyes of Texas. I was much younger then and didn't realize who he was until the tape aired. I honestly haven't met a man of his status in the community that was so well spoken and king hearted. I also remember watching his last broadcast on KPRC. Johnson, Stone and I believe Craig Roberts was there then and I knew at that moment, TV broadcasting would never be the same in Houston. With his leaving TV in Houston seemed to change to more of an entertainment environment. People today don't watch totally for the news value of which Mr. Stone brilliantly gave to his audiences. The evolution of TV and Radio alike are never again going to be the same. Losing such a great man simply speeds up the pace.

Peace and Prayers Go to His Family.
