I KNOW THIS IS A RADIO BOARD.... BUT

Can anyone tell me why WBTV.com has not been updated since 11pm last night? It's 10am now and none of the top stories been updated. Now I know that everyone IS talking about the gas situation and how many stations don't have gas but c'mon!

I mean, this is Charlotte, NC we're talking about here! Maybe I'm going nuts about nothing here - am I?

bird!

It could be worse, you could be paying New York State gas prices, lol!!!!!

Steve

New York state gas prices average $3.70/gallon while Charlotte is paying $4.01 per gallon.

How could it be worse in New York State?

I hope you don't work for a News/Talk station.

The big TV news in Charlotte is WCCB/18, the so-called "Fox Charlotte" is now doing their local news (such as it is) in HD. How the mighty have fallen! Back in the day, WBTV/3 would have been first with HD. Now, they'll apparenly be #3, as they claim they'll have HD in a matter of days. It's a shame, WCNC will apparently not be HD for the forseeable future......

According to thier CE, WBTV was supposed to go HD last Monday, but there was apparantly a delay with the new set.

He tells me they have moved the anchors to another set with a green screen and are using shots of the old set while the new set is being installed. Last I heard from him they were planning to have it on Saturday or Sunday, but that didn't happen.

I will see if i can get any further information from him and pass it along.

It's a shame they are not on the ball with this, WBTV was always first in everything over the years until LFG got involved.

Finally they have it on the air.

Last night's 11pm cast was the first in HD, but there was not really enough to make many comments on it.

I noticed that they are still SD in the field, at least on last night's show. I had hopes they would start shooting in HD in the field as well, maybe that will soon follow, after all it is the weekend and maybe HD cameras have not been handed out yet to the photogs.

I understand that very few stations do HD in the field. WBTV and WSOC use the same cameras. I was told a couple of weeks ago that the memory cards they use now instead of tape can only hold about a minute of HD video. In the SD 16:9 mode it can hold close to 20 minutes.

The editing gear is very pricey too. Apparently very few stations can edit HD in the field.

I did notice a number of microwave antennas on the ground behind the station when I passed by the station today after the Panthers game. Could be they are still in the process of upgrading the ENG gear...

I was told today at the Panthers game that WBTV has a new graphics package on the way due in next month...
