I know WASG 540 has tower issues, but...

...does it have to be an unlistenable mess?

I've tuned in hoping to let my mom hear some gospel tunes while Gospel 900/WXQW 660 were in paid preaching mode. 2-3 occasions I've visited Mobile, nothing but skippy, warbled hash.

WIJD 1270 (on the same tower) is as clear as a local, so what gives?

Rats. I meant to write more but I was on my phone. Writing replies on here is a pain on a mobile device.

540 seemed to be having some transmitter issues ever since it was brought back to life. The skips aren't in the music but the actual transmitter going off and on the air rapidly! When I could hear it, I could see the signal meter on my radios go from max to 0 to max over and over as the dropouts occurred.

The audio was definitely garbage, too. Sounded like it was being fed by a VERY low bitrate encoder over a dialup line. That's also how the translator for WBHY-AM sounds over in Spanish Fort. It's embarrassing.

Man you can say that again!!

This is completely off topic of this discussion, but seeing the WXQW call letter brought back old memories for me of when those calls were on 94.1 Meridianville/Huntville (Now Urban A/C WHRP licensed to Gurley). They simulcasted on 92.5 WWXQ Trinity/Decatur back then (now News/Talk WVNN-FM). It was originally a rhythmic station "WXQ, The Rhythm of Huntsville" before clear channel flipped it to oldies. I loved it when it was rhythmic station. I was shocked when I turned it on one day and it had changed. Anyway, I'll exit off of memory lane now. Continue.
