Driving away from Cleveland, Ohio on I-71 on Tuesday night between 9:45 and 10:30pm, I hear my usual catch of Michael Savage on "Wam" radio, 1180AM. What are their actual call letters? Tonight, however, they were competing with an Oldies Rock/Top 40 station. What station might I have been hearing. I heard no DJ and no sweeps, nor obviously any Legal ID. They were fading in and out, and very occasionally drowned out Mr. Savage. The first song I heard parts of was "Mr. Tambourine Man" by The Byrds. Other songs included "Tighten Up" by Archie Bell and The Drells, "Soul Man" by Sam and Dave, one of the Monkees big hits and the last song I heard as I drove into my driveway was "Raindrops Keep Fallin' On My Head" by B.J. Thomas.

This is very weird. I have tried five times now to replay to the original post with WHAM in capital letters (I can see capital letters on my screen right now), but whenever I post, it comes out wham, all lower case. What gives>
 
Likely WSQR Sycamore, IL or WSKP Hope Valley, RI. Both should not be heard at night (WSQR has 1 WATT! YES, 1 watt! WSKP is a daytimer) and seem to be cheating.

WSQR is a semi-local for me. Their stick is about 25 miles to my southwest. Larry Nelson, the owner (who also has a few other stations), is pretty good about following the rules and powering down at sunset. I've never heard them here at night....it's usually all WHAM. Driving by their transmitter location at night, the one-watt signal is good for about 4-5 miles. It's unlistenable in the next town to the north and the next town to the south....both roughly 7 miles away. (Fortunately for WSQR, they have an FM translator.) Daytime power is 900 watts, which manages to put out a relatively decent local signal extending into some of Chicago's far western suburbs. But, if they "forget" to power down at night, I'd still be a little surprised if WSQR was any match at for WHAM on I-71 southwest of Cleveland. But hey....when it comes to propagation and conditions, just about anything can happen and sometimes does!

As for the music...what the OP heard would seem to fit the satellite-delivered format, although it's weighted somewhat more toward 70s rock than 60s.
 
Very likely if not certainly my local, WVLZ, Knoxville which tends to blast it's full 10kW 24 hours a day even though it's a daytimer.
