I was flipping through the stations and I noticed a new Radio Station on 107.3 in the Plainfield area since last Friday. It was called Cat Country radio. I could hear it all over Union county. Why did it go off the air this afternoon. I tuned and it was only static 107.3. Website says its only broadcasting to south jersey now. I want it to come back and if you do I will tell everyone to listen to your station. I listened to it a lot even with static in some spots. To the powers that be, your station is going to be a big success, please come back to north Jersey soon!

It sounded very good with a big variety. Its about time north Jersey gets a country station on radio. How could there be stations of every other format but no country. Its a standard format in other places. Y107 was the best.

It's not necessarily a "New Station" just one that makes an appearance to those parts a few times a year due to warm/hot weather along with atmospheric conditions more commonly called "Tropo." The station is a 25kw one licensed to the immediate AC area. As of this post, I just checked and it still is. Check 96.9 and 97.3 in your area and chances are you are able to pick those Class B & B-1 stations as well today due to the warmth across the area.

Agreed though, Cat is a good country station. Good to see that Millennium Radio has the power, faith, talent and sales staff to make it work in the market and beyond!!

;)

It'll be back tonight ;-)

You'll be able to hear it almost every night in the summer and some nights, it will be clear as a local. Millennium unfortunately can't control how the 107.3 signal propagates. It really isn't supposed to cover anywhere north of 195, but frequent tropo enhancement brings the Atlantic City stations into north Jersey and even Long Island often. It's all because of a temperature inversion with the hot air and cold ocean. Those usually fade during the day but they are strong at night.

You can listen to it online at the website.

Is Chris Coleman the inventor of radio boards still with them???

Hold on and let me throw the switch to up the power...... ok, there you go.
Yes, Chris Coleman is still here. On the air he goes by "Chris Coleman."

LOL - yes, I'm still at WPUR. 12+ years (excluding my Virginia experiment). When I started here, I was board op'ing NASCAR on Country 106.3 WKOE!

I wish you ran a radio site like in the late 90's now... you did a supurb job....thanks for the memories and great job....

This post definitely shows that the average person would care a lot about a station with a unique format. They cared enough to register and post here. Of course they don't know about tropo, they just found a station playing their favorite music and listened, without knowing that they aren't even supposed to receive the station they were listening to. They were blaming the station for cutting its coverage when in reality, WPUR has no control over where their radio waves go beyond their coverage area.

I did hear someone from Asbury Park, NJ call in to Party 105 yesterday. I just hope he keeps listening online since PartyFM will not be heard in NJ permanently.

This tropo opening was one of the best I've heard, and it lasted a week.

listen on the web?

and for those that remember he hosted a radio show called the radio radio show twice
once on WNJC monday nights from 9pm-10pm
and on 92.1 WVLT saurday nights from 2am-4am sometimes it would go longer

Cat Country is one of the best sounding stations in New Jersey and should be expanded to somehow include North Jersey. Joe Kelly along with his staff should be commended on the fine job they do there on a daily basis.

Would make a good format for 105.5 WDHA.

Cat Country 107.3's signal automatically expands into north Jersey every night in the summer, if you know what I mean.

The western half of northern and central NJ is covered by 92.5 WXTU from Philly and 96.1 WCTO from Easton, PA. In fact, I have often received both "Cat Countrys" (WCTO and WPUR) at the same time; they both even air the same syndicated nighttime show.

There is also 90.5 WCVH from Flemington, NJ with a sporadic coverage area based on terrain. I've heard them on a good car radio as far away as the Livingston Mall. WCVH seems to have abandoned their "Today's Hottest Country" approach, however, and now leans more towards Classic Country, with a lot of '80s and '90s songs in the playlist, and very few, if any, current hits.

I live in Essex county and I'm extremely disappointed there is no country station anywhere within listening range. It's too bad station owners think a country station won't do well here.

Any love on this board for WKMK, Thunder Country 98.5, in Ocean County?
I've listened online to many country stations in this region, but enjoy this one the most.
They play a lot of good current country songs and artists that most of the other stations ignore.
Thunder Country also has good personalities such as Chris Van Zant, Captain Jack, and Randy Davis (formerly with both WYNY's).
Check out this link for some of their recently played songs. They have an unusually large playlist of currents:

I guess everyone is stuck on the "Y107" days, that they don't care for Thunder, just like the dance fans that were stuck on "Pulse 87" but didn't care for Party FM.

Thunder 98.5 only serves the NJ shore, Y107 was broadcast on 4 synchronized transmitters on 107.1 that served Long Branch, Belvidere, White Plains, and Hampton Bays, in other words, the entire NY metro area.

Thunder does sound good but I like Cat Country better and I listen a lot. Country stations need to be expanded in this region, currently the region is way underserved. Joe Kelly is one of the best and most professional programmers in the country.
