I have to admit after listening to the station it is kinda cool!!! I am not usualy a big fan of stations that dont play newer stuff, but for some reason I have found myself hooked!! Nice mix of everything, "Judas Priest" to "MC Hammer" they definitely have it all covered..

I can now understand why so many "Oldies" stations were flipped to this format!! This is essentially a modern day oldies station for the FM generation..

Definitely agree with the Rock 102 reminder to!! Only exception the "Jack" voice guy does not mention artist names or songs..Everyone should secretly know the songs anyway, even though we wont admit to it..

It is very similiar to the DMX Variety Hit station also..Only exception being the DMX version plays more currents, and a few quirky "Why the hell would they play that?" songs...

Once these songs get overplayed and lose the "Oh My God I Havnt Heard That One in Forever" as they did when they actually were hits, Will listeners go back to there original stations!! Or will the Jack format break the fromat of month club (ie. Dancin oldies, Smooth Jazz, Hot talk)

It would be kinda nice if WBUF had a winner for once!! I mean come on everyone out there has to be secretly pulling for this format to stick!! And hopefully bring an end to their severe case of the FLIPS..

Welll I am in Phoenix and so far the Stern show has been on for 28 minutes, i doubt it ended early

I figured it out!! My bad... I changed the post also... When I heard BETTER THEN EZRAS -closer I found it wierd!!

I am guessing that they dont' have enough spots to cover Stern breaks and run longer re-joins of actual music played on Jack instead of instrumentals
 
I gotta go along with ya..the mix is good..unpredictible too..
I do have to agree with Mr. Pickle in an earlier thread and would like to see the compression backed down a bit..the audio is ok..BUT just loud..got no snap to it...the meters just sit there...don't move at all..
Outside of that..station sounds like fun..like a good 'bar mix."

The other station that came about last year at this time takes itself way too serious..sounds like no one there is having any fun..liner cards for a living is right up there with working phones at yer local telemarketing sweatshop.

Nice analogy, TC. Even the German judges give you a "10.0" on that!

One thing Jack 92.9 needs desperately is an individual PD (not shared with monster country station WYRK) and LIVE jocks, at least in middays and afternoons. It's presumed Jack will go live in AM drive once Hoawrd departs from greener pastures. There are some Buffalo jocks who would sound good in AM drive at Jack, but as a format, Jack is designed to run jockless.

Too bad.

Live, uptempo jocks who sound like they're part of Buffalo and connected to the music they play make all the difference, especially to a radio station's long term success. For proof, just look at WYRK, 97 Rock and WHTT. If Mr. Silver and Infinity run Jack on the cheap, it will wind up as another notch on 92.9's List 'O Failed Formats. (Can you say AC, Hot AC, Lite AC, Smooth Jazz, Alice, Dancin' Oldies, Buffalo's Rahhhhhk Station, FM Talk?)

Infinity must have some faith in this format because yesterday the company flipped its Oldies stations in NYC and Chicago to Jack. Check the Chicago and NYC boards for reaction and updates.</font>

I really like jack fm in buffalo...i live in toronto and can pick it up just like a local station...jack in toronto plays lots of canadian music...jack in buffalo likes to mix it up more....still think the giant is a good station.

Enough faith to not care about Heritage in NY.

A few days before Jack came about in NY, someone posting on the Variety Hits board commented that Jack would never come about on a Heritage station,

so I added to the thread by posting "Thank-you Heritage for paying rent and bills."
Almost immediately after, Jack NY was born. Pure Coincidence, I'm sure, but I do hope the other Infinity NY properties are in excellent shape, because if they're not, then why didn't one of those stations become Jack?<P ID="signature">______________

The common thinking is Infinity grabbed (and will continue to grab) national headlines by blowing up the big oldies station for JACK-FM. If they had flipped WNEW, it would have added another format change to a station that had suffered 7 changes in 3 years and gotten them a column inch in the radio column.
