I met the Old Troll of Rock And Roll today

I met Ed Perry today, one of my radio hero's for his dedication to keeping local radio alive.

I didn't have a lot of time unfortunately, I am in town to deal with a death in the family and wanted to stop by WATD to say hi to a friend of mine and I got to see her, plus another friend I had not seen in a couple of years... and as I walked in Ed was in the lobby

So I got to have about a 25 minute talk and tour with him, something I had wanted to do for years but never got around to

Not a great picture of Mr Perry, but the engineering geek in me had to get a picture of the engineering rack and all the toys in it.

I also got to see the record library with some interesting and unique 78's among other things.

Stopped by WATD once. He has an impressive collection of vintage radios in the lobby too! Such a fun operation. Good people.

Ed Perry is a true radio legend. And genius, the ultimate entrepreneur.

He’s an engineering genius and look what he did there: discovered an available frequency, got the frequency, won over a town that refused to give him a Tower permit so he put it at the dump and then named his pride and joy after it: We’re At The Dump (WATD), built the station pretty much himself using stuff from the scrap heap and Auctions of bankrupt radio stations at a time when he had very little money.

And there’s no stronger supporter of truly local radio the past 50 years than him. And he’s still got his fastball. And it’s still LOCAL.
