I Miss 95.3 Party

nd2023

Banned
I recently got back from a trip to Disney World. Of course, being a radio geek, I took my radio. I tuned to 95.3 expecting to hear dance music, and I didn't. It was just another rap station. It felt so weird not listening to 95.3 Party in Orlando.

However, I heard a dance mixshow Saturday night on 93.3 FLZ from Tampa. It was hard to pull it in around Orlando, but I enjoyed it. XL 106.7 and 107.1 A1A played Everytime We Touch often. I noticed that the signals of the 100000 watt stations are very strong, and stations up in the Northeast can only use 50000 watts.

I was gonna say invest in Sirius Sat and
check out The Beat 36, it rocks and is
so worth it for those of us that LOVE
the dance!

FLZ is easily audible in the attractions area (Kissimmee/Lake Buena Vista where Disney World is). Most of Orlando's population though lives east and northeast of Downtown Orlando (a good 20-30 mins from Disney World).

93.3 FLZ has Dance shows on both Friday and Saturday nights, and in general easily puts XL 106.7 to shame in every department.

I miss it as a Christian station - they had some interesting programs like Central Florida Forum. But that was hosted by preacher that hired a hit man or something - who would have thought it?!

FLZ was a fairly easy catch in Daytona Beach back in the late great "Power Pig" days.

I didn't think there were that many 100k stations in Central Florida. But come to think of it, 102 jamz makes it to within 50 miles of Tallahassee, so they must be pushing some power. The real powerhouses are on those 1200 foot sticks in Hollywood, FL. They were easy catches from Melbourne, FL.

Out in the west, the 100k stations on 2000 foot towers can go 300 miles.

I was also a huge fan of '95.3-PARTY' - especially in 2002 when it really was a 'Pure Dance' station. In 2003 it began to take on hip hop and rap characteristics, and it was essentially a hybrid station. The transformation was completed on Monday January 05th 2004 when the 'PARTY' died and 'POWER-95.3' took over as a full-service urban contemporary station. 13 months later on Valentine's Day of 2005 South Florida lost its 'Pure Dance' station - and the Cox sister station to Orlando's former 'WPYO' - 'WPYM' - as 'PARTY-93.1' suddenly died and became an active rock station as '93-ROCK'.

Nowadays whenever I'm in the Orlando area I too flip between '93.3-FLZ' out of Tampa, 'XL-106.7' in Orlando, and '107.1-A1A' out of Melbourne. But it's just not the same up-and-down I-4 and International Drive without the 'PARTY'.

100,000 watt FM stations are fairly common all over Florida (and the southeastern U.S. as far north as North Carolina). Here in Florida one can usually drive for over 200 miles from north to south and pick up any given 100,000 watt FM station in the middle of the drive.
