I miss Payola..

and I'm sure there are some on this board who remember when music people dropped lines within the jacket as compared to the suit and tie guys who cater to shareholders.

Radio sounded better back when the PD was being paid off by indies who actually beleived in artists. Fire Away.

Yea it was a much better time when new artists were actually being discovered on the radio.

Do you really think that the indies cared about more than the money they got from the record label? The whole indie system was a racket that Tony Soprano would've been proud of. What's lacking today are labels that are willing to nurture and develop talent and not cut them loose if their first record stiffs.

O.K. forget drugs. What about the music. Any opinions? Some of us who remember the 60's-80's recall when actual music reps showed up to hawk there act as compared to Tony Soprano or a conference call from San Antonio.

Those indies may have been drug addled and craven but they did, for the most part, beleive in the artists they were selling. Some corporate VP types in todays world sit on a sofa and watch Kelly Clarkson, consult with a member of the board, and decide who's gonna be a star.

The 60's were totally corrupt when it came to indies and yet how many great titles can you hum along too from that era. Of course you can take a bullet on the Vegas strip to sell yourself too...
