I miss the Kimmer show

Especially the 1996 to around 2001 era. Man that was good stuff and it really got me into radio shows. The first hour or so with his comments on the things going on in the world or in Atlanta were great. Remember Earl Pitts native American redneck or whatever the hell it was.

Thanks for checking in Kimmy.

Kimmer was on WGST-640. I was a frequent visitor to Atlanta and always loved his program. For a while, I could access the show via computer. A couple of years ago, CC cleared the decks at WGST and the Kimmer was gone. He had been on-the-air in the afternoons for several years at WGST.

Earl Pitts was a product of WLW's Gary Burbank, now retired. The "Earl Pitts" gigs are still on-the-air in many areas as Gary is still doing them in retirement. WVLK here in Lexington, KY airs them in Morning drive.

Kimmer was always funny and heartfelt...he did piss me off when he'd say something I didn't agree with but that could be anyone..he was still a staple in my daily listen

I miss Ralph From Ben Hill.

WGST? 640?

Sorry, nothing there.

I think it is a ham radio band.

That ain't ham. That's SPAM! And it expired a few years ago and the can is now bloated! LOL!!!!

You are right to describe WGST circa 2009 as a stinking, bulging can of festering meat by-products with a permissable amount of rat droppings.

But in the day - and the not far distant day it was - the station had on-air talent, a market presence (the News Monster) and an attitude and an audience. All that went away through years of savage mismanagement, including the signal split, the Braves contract and ensuing Braves Radio fiasco, all exacerbated by a series of comically overmatched and unqualified PD's.

Would it be the same radio station today? Not likely, the market has changed. But attention and respect must be paid. Herp to the Kimmer.

You are so, so correct. When I came to Atlanta in 1994, WGST and WSB were neck and neck in ratings, and WGST actually outbilled WSB because of the Braves.

Some of WGST's imaging ridiculed WSB (such as WGKA's does today). WSB actually reacted by airing imaging that said (probably not exact), "Knocking us is what they do best, but providing the best team coverage of local news is what we do best;" and "we're so powerful we don't need an FM."

Can you imagine WSB reacting on air today? Can you imaging WGST outbilling WSB?

Part of this was the radio acumen of WGST's Eric Seidel, and part of it was that WSB was in the midst of getting its act together following some poor programming strategy.

Kim Peterson was a no talent who catered to the ignorant. Kind of like what the RG's do. And yes, you can pull a rating share out of that. What a world we live in. The only reason GST had numbers back in the early 90's is because of Rush and Boortz, and then Sean. The Kimmer never had any impact, he was part of the downfall.
