I do remember Dick doo-daa.

I remember taping Ushy on Saturday nights on KNOK and then when he went to K104.
I remember Dr. Rock's Debut on KNOK, and then see him go to K104.
I remember when K104 broadcast Ready For the World's concert when they came to town.

Oh my God, you just brought back some wonderful memories......

Not for me...it's more like "Oh God, not 'Oh Sheila' AGAIN"...just not ready for THAT world, thank you.

My K-104 memories go even further back, when Randy Johnson, Wyvonne St. John, Vern Catron and Terry Avery were the rule...and when a 20-something, Afro'ed kid with glasses was doing mornings at Soul-Sockin' 73, KKDA-AM. I think his name was, um, Tom Joyner.

Speaking of Superstation Soul 73 KKDA, is Willis Johnson still doing mornings there? Just curious. He was from Gladewater (near Longview).

And where is Yvonne St. John these days? Last time I heard her, she was on V100 (KRBV). Of course, that was quite some time ago.

I have no clue where Yvonne St. John is. She might still be here. Yes Willis still does morning on Soul 73. I don't know why Service does not have a website for the AM station. They are stepchild in the Service family.

Since nothing is really going on in this market, I thought it would be kinda interesting find out what radio stations everyone miss, and why. I will kick it off:

I miss 100.3 Jamz, because of the great imaging, best personalities, (Al B. Bad, Baby G., MC Jammer, Ken Bell), and the hottest programs, (The Thunderstorm, Under the Covers). I also enjoyed the good music they played

Buc, you and I must kick it... that was my first gig in DFW radio. I was EZ's producer and that of the Thunderstorm with Al. B. 100.3 JAMZ was a trendsetting station, back when Tom Casey had the reigns. 104 has knocked the wind out of urban radio. At one time, it was about personality, not "keeping it real." What Skip is doing down the dial is a travesty. He should recall the days of our show "What's Goin' On" and create a dialog of change rather than promoting the hell out of Carmax for the Hood, "Driver's Select."

But since we are all reminiscing, what does the VOCE miss?

1. Stevens and Pruitt Morning Show
2. Anyone remember the old "TEXXAS JAMS" at the Cotton Bowl?
3. True urban radio. No, not "Thug Tunes" Not "Grown and Sexy" but Russ Parr before he knew he was big, EZ Street when working for the community meant more than a sound bite on the 5 o'clock news and Jennifer "Pebbles" (suki suki) Mery.
4. The Oasis... worked there, listened there. Call it what you want. CBS had something and screwed it all up.
5. Those EdgeMixes were sweet.
6. Ron Chapman in the heyday, and Kidd in his... the Eagle, not KISS.

NOTES:
1. Willis Johnson on KKDA has been doing his morning show almost as long as Joe Bagby on KHVN has done his. Both icons. Both great.
2. Salem, funny how most of those K104 folk got fired. And uh, BADD Brad? Not so much.

THE UNCLE WALDO BIT WAS FUNNY. STEVENS AND PRUITT WERE GREATNESS.
tHE OASIS ON 106.1 WAS AMAZING. I LISTENED TO TEMPIE LINDSAY ALL THE TIME.
I MISS 21 TEXAS JAMZ...WITH ALL THE 100.3 PERSONALITIES. TOM CASEY WAS KICKING MUCHO BUTT BACK THEN.

WOW AL. B. BADD. NOW THATS A NAME FROM THE PAST.

Vern Catron is in Killeen, TX now (about 160 miles or 3 hours south of DFW) doing afternoons from 4 to 7pm on 103.1 Kiss FM.

WOW...glad to hear he's back on the air, but I wonder why? He and I worked at ABC Radio at the same time, just 3 years ago, and he left sometime along the way to cross the parking lot and join Joyner's Reach Media. He was long departed from his on-air days by then, and was doing something in programming or management. Hadn't seen or talked to him since, and he was always amazed that anyone still remembered his DJ days. Great jock at K-104. I believe he did mornings for a while until Warren Epps got there in mid-1979.

Do you have any old 100.3 Jamz airchecks? I would love to get my hands on some more. This is a e-mail that I received from Y-Vonne St. John back in September 10, 2001. At the time, she was living in Arlington:

Hi Frank..glad to hear from u...I've been doing some movie acting and
waiting for my next opportunity in entertainment..please keep in
touch..Y-vonne St. John

That's the last that I heard from her.....

Wasn't there a guy on K104 by the name of Quinn? Seem like I used to hear a guy say, "It's Quinn on your weekend"....

There was a Quinn Echols on KNOK...not sure if he moved over to K-104, or if you're thinking of KNOK instead.

Well, whatever happened to Mixmaster Jim Evans? He did mixes for K104, then he mixed on the old Power 107. He's a white guy.

Quinn Echols is in Shreveport as PD/Afternoon Drive at KDKS 102.1 FM.

I remember the Texas Jams. Great Rock Concerts.

I never heard STEVENS & PRUETT when they were in Dallas, but they were great when I first moved to Houston (b4 Clear "Cut" Channel sanitized them).

And, I too miss Ron Chapman every single morning.

I'll look to see if I have any 100.3 JAMZ airchecks. I know I have several K104 airchecks from the late 80's/early 90's, but I'm not sure about KJMZ.

i still have the wall poster for the 1st Texxas World Music Festival.. ( Texxas Jam) in good condition.

but, then again, i'm old.....

oh.

THE TEXXAS WORLD MUSIC FEST 1978.. was great. I worked it. Having a sandwich and a coke back stage with Willie, Kris,Johnny and June, Asleep at the Wheel for Willies 4th of July Picnic. The next day it was Ted Nugent, Heart, AeroSmith,Point Blank. The Cotton Bowl floor temp was 110 degrees, and we had medium pressure water hoses for the crowd.

It later became just the TeXXas Jam for only 1 day instead of the original four.

Now folks THOSE WERE CONCERTS then.

Hey since you have airchecks of K104 and 100.3 JAMZ, can you try to get them onto mp3airchecks.com please? I would like to hear them airchecks from both of those stations when they were both hot during those times.

Problem is, I have them on old cassettes, and the quality isn't really good. Most of them were recorded from the Tyler-Longview area, during heavy tropo times. If someone can tell me how to get them from cassette on to mp3airchecks, I can try.
