I need a box that will reset a BARIX UNIT

Does anyone know someone that makes custom boxes that will turn off and turn on equipment when it locks up? My Barix Instreamer and Exstreamer boxes lock up all too often. I can try to reboot over the internet but it doesn't always work. Then I'm forced to go out to the site and manually press the reset button or even shut it off and turn it off. If you know of a company that makes boxes that I could plug the Barix unit into and turn it off and on, please provide company name, website and/or phone number.

There are lots of silence sensors out there that would do the trick. They range from Web-enabled units, like CircuitWerkes or Broadcast Tools make that let you see your audio and control relays via the Internet to simple devices, like some by RDL and others, that only close a relay while there's dead air. The Web enabled ones will also send an e-mail or text message in a silence situation, besides closing relays.

Just loop one leg of the Barix power supply through a normally closed relay and when you have dead air, have the relay open momentarily to reboot the box.

Probably just a stupid question but... Isn't reliability the main reason for using a Barix instead of a PC? I''m surprised to 'hear' Barix boxes lock up... ???

ControlByWeb makes a box that can turn an outlet on and off via the internet or automatically if it can't ping something.

The only time I've had one lock up is when the Internet connection feeding it was lost for some time. Usually it will find the stream again, once it is reestablished. In my experience that is an unusual occurrence, but it has happened, especially with older units. Perhaps upgrading to the latest firmware would solve the problem. I’m not sure a PC would fare any better, but I know it will use a lot more power and give off a lot more heat. It also costs more, unless you get a garage sale clunker.

Do you have static IP addresses on your Barix boxes?? The only time I have ever had to hit the reset button was when my ISP "upgraded" my internet and wiped my static IP address out. A hard reset (vs a simple power cycle) made the box search for the new address. That said, if a hard reset is what it takes to make yours work again, a simple power cycle might not.
