I Need Help...

Hi I have a radio station and I use audacity to record my programs but recently it hasnt been working right or converting audio files right. I've contacted customer support but they were no help So I was wondering if you guys knew of any other FREE audio recording software.  P.S I do a 4 hour show each week. Also do you guys know of any free streaming software other then stickam cause thats also ticking me off but thats another story. LOL

Can you save a file with Audacity? If so, you could use a free program called "Super" it pretty much converts any format to any other format both audio and video.

As far as free streaming for audio try Shoutcast and if you want video and audio you can use ustream.tv , livevideo.com, justin.tv, and My fav! mogulus.com (which gives you your own TV station for free for live and pre-recorded video.

Good Luck!

Since Audacity is free and open source, I don't think there's much in the way of "customer support." So, your best bet would be to Google your problem. Chances are somebody else has had the same problem and was able to find a solution.

Or, you could post your problem here and hope that somebody can help.

Well I Have A 4 to 5 Hour Show And Up Untill Now I Would Convert To wav Format And It Would Convert The Whole FILE. Now It Just Converts Less Then An Hour Of It. Its Not That I Ran Out Of Memory Belive Me I Checked That.

I also use Audacity to record voice files...There is an Audacity Users Group website. I recently posted a topic about a prolem I'm having getting wav files to burn to a cd. There may be another user who can give you some advice about your problems with the software. Good Luck.

I do recording and editing using a paid program: Adobe Audition. I agreed recently help some people doing church recording who are trying to learn Audacity. Then they ask a question, that means I have to learn that part of Audacity they are having trouble with.

Using Google I discovered the Audacity user/development community maintains an Audacity WIKI site. It has been very "user friendly". Just Google "Audacity WIKI" and try it out.

QUESTION: Is it necessary that you save the program as ONE four hour file? Can you save FOUR one hour files? You don't have all your eggs in one basket that way.

I agree w/ the GRC (nice job helping out the churches). BTW, why must it be saved as a WAV file, when an MP3 could sound fine and use up considerably less space on the hard drive? The football games I record for my station often take up over 3 hours (pre-pre-game to post-post-game), and it takes so long for our system to record the file, even as an MP3. After I hit "save," I clean up the station, use the facilities, and wash out the coffee pot and dishes... then come back to the computer to see if the file's done yet. I have no desire to find out how much longer it would take saving them as WAV files. We use Audition on what I'm told is a decent-sized hard-drive. If you can get away with recording in mono instead of stereo, that should also help use less space. Even if you haven't run out of room, I've found that the smaller the file, the better.

First let me mention that I don't use Audacity on a regular basis.

OK. So, you're recording your show using Audacity? And then from the File menu you're selecting Export as WAV? Am I correct so far?

And by "Ran Out Of Memory" you mean hard drive space, right? Because memory would have nothing to do with how long the audio file would be.

I routinely use Audacity to record sessions lasting 3 hours or longer, and export as .wav. I'm using Audacity 1.3.4 Beta (Unicode) for Windows.

One thing to check during the recording process is the "Project Rate" in the lower left corner. Make sure that you're recording the project at the same rate that you're trying to export it. Otherwise, the conversion may be part of your problem.

Some other possibilities are hardware issues. Have you defragmented your hard drive? Tried saving the file using another program? Tried saving the file in a different format? Is your Audacity temp folder on the same drive, or is it on a drive with considerably less space?

You might also check out the Audacity Support Forum entry at http://audacityteam.org/forum/viewtopic.php?f=18&t=6080&p=24120&hilit=8000. It references a bug found in an earlier Linux version of Audacity, but it's possible that the same problem cropped up in earlier versions.

I use audicity and also produce a four hour show.

I have found that my show is in four parts per hour and export out at mp3.

also i have found that lame dll file needs to be a good copy. if you download from web it may not be the best for the project file.

i voice track files in audacity them export them as mp3 then start a new project import in all mp3 songs and the voice track these are about 15 to 20 min long then export all as mp3.

also i have learned that i run only audiacity and mp3 gain program on one computer, nothing else.

if i can help with anything let me know.
