I notice several tower lights are brighter this year...

Is it a new FAA requirement, some are LED and I wonder if the cold temps will affect them?

Days ago I think the top becon on WIBC was blinking faster than the times I seen it before.
A tower near me looks like they replaced there lights sometime this year because they seem much brighter. The beacon looks like it might be messing up, saw it blink for a while then out for a min. or more then blink 1 time then off, and blink like 3 times then off for a while.

HEHE if you notice tower beacons and brightness of their lights, you got too much time on your hands...LOL just messing with ya, but seriously over the last 10 yrs or so, ive noticed more and more towers with blue strobs, instead of the dim red slow blinkers, this is -probably going to become the standard eventually.

LEDs are becoming more popular ... but they still have to flash the right brightness and timing.
24x7 strobes are even more fun to get right.

The real fun is keeping them right. $3000 repair bills are common when anything more than a strobe lamp fails. These things are notorious for operating on day brightness at night, much to the chagrin of area residents.

Don't let these experts fool you. They finally got the little old cleaning lady to climb the towers and clean the glass globes that house the lights. The cleaning removed years of soot, polluiton and bird droppings to provide a nice, bright, tower light experience for you and others. It took some convincing, but she's apparently cleaned the light globes of every tower in central Indiana. She should be working in the Terre Haute area before Christmas.
Regards....
