"I Pray For You" banned?

Are their any stations not playing this hit by "Jaron and the Long Road To Love" due to its lyrical content? It gets pretty raw when he ..."hopes the brakes go out going down a hill" and particularly when he hopes the lady he's mad at falls asleep drunk next to someone, which is a joke about potential rape which is not P.C. in the least.

I have heard it on SiriusXM (Channel 11, maybe) but not on terrestrial radio.

WYCD in Detroit plays it all day the time. Jaron and morning producer Steve Grunwald even made a new version of the song in regards to former mayor (and thief) Kwame Kilpatrick. Its pretty funny.

I hear it on all the Country stations in my area:

WAAG-FM 95 (Galesburg, IL)
KKSY - 95.7 KISS Country (Anamosa-Cedar Rapids, IA)
KHAK 98.1 (Cedar Rapids-Iowa City, IA)
KBKB-FM - 101.7 The Bull (Fort Madison-Burlington, IA)
WRMJ - Country 102.3 (Aledo, IL)
KDMG - BIG Country 103.1 (Burlington-Fort Madison, IA)
WLLR 103.7 (Davenport-Quad Cities, IA)

From what I can see, 111 out of 126 Mediabase reporting stations are playing it. It's charting at #16 this week. Not a big hit, but it's not banned either. The guy obviously has a sense of humor. The history of country music has far nastier songs, especially from women. Loretta Lynn comes to mind. Back in the 1920s, Louis Armstrong had a pop hit with "I'll be glad when you're dead you rascal you."

BTW, I wonder how many people know his full name is Jaron Lowenstein, or that he was formerly in a pop music duo together with his twin brother Evan. Certainly not the ordinary genesis of a Country music star...

Hmmm...that's how Conway Twitty did it. He was a pop star with It's Only Make Believe who flipped to country.
To me, "I Pray For You" doesn't sound "country" at all. Jaron's voice has a little "twang" in it, but that's about it. With that in mind, I wonder if it will get any airplay on AC or CHR stations.

No AC or CHR for this song. Adult Contemporary is focused on women listeners and the, albeit comic, mean-spiritedness of this song is not something women will not warm up to or laugh at (particularly the 'falling asleep drunk next to a friend' - line). My sister listens to today's country music, and she does not particularly like this song. I still believe that girls/women listen more closely to lyrics then boys/men.

CHR can be pretty raw... think "Rock Star" by Nickelback which employs the same style of dark comedy ... but "I Pray For You" doesn't really fit well musically. It might work in some local markets, but with the nationalization of everything, where is that going to happen?

Whenever anyone makes a comment like this I ask them to listen to early Eddy Arnold with the "ting-a-ling" sound of Roy Wiggins on steel versus the later recordings when Chet Atkins produced him with the "Nashville Sound" Yet most "Classic Country" fans still revere Eddy and many of them have never heard his late 40s and early 50s efforts. Patsy Cline at the time of her untimely death was also transitioning.

Today a lot of rock musicians are drifting to country because that is where they can get air play as more of the modern pop music goes to the hippy hoppy crappy sound. Can't blame them for that. I just don't want all of the classic sound with the twang and steel guitars to get trampled in the rush. There should be room for all because County fans have a better broader taste and are generally more tolerant than other listeners.

My preferred genres are Classic Country, Rock and Roll from the fifties, Big Band Swing and 50s pop. I realize that I'm an old guy but I just thing that those are more enjoyable and sound like they actually had some talent.

Great record! One of the best I've heard in years on Country radio! The type that brings new listeners to the Country format! Thanks Jaron!!!!!!!!!!

PS: I may put it on our Top 40 station as well!

Its played every now and then on KBWF in San Fransisco. While traveling recently I was surprised to hear It on KKBN 93.5 in Sonora,CA which is in a very Right-Wing area.
