I remember in 2005 when wlrs were getting 4 shares what happenend?

I thought when wlrs went on the air in march of 2000 at 105.1 it was a good and much better alternative rock station then they were at 102.3 Then radio one ruined it and 105.1 quickly went downhill but they were getting good numbers at least overall like a 3.5 -4.0 share back in 2005. So i want to know what happenend to them as a rock station??? Why did the numbers go downhill??? I remember the good ole lrs fest.

The first one in 1999 when they were at 102.3 and a few short days later they blew it up into love 102.3 It was not a very good station thats for sure!!!I always wondered why they did the lrs fest and i found out because they already had contracts for it.

I think it was more so the lineup. Joe was never that good a jock. After he took over the station it really went downhill. So the question is now what will happen to them? Music sports or etc...Time will tell i reckon. I vote for a rock station inbetween the fox and fpk

Probably the poor managing hurt the station. LRS was the king in its heyday. I never understood how a station so popular could ruin itself so quickly.

Yeah, man. That station went from king of the hill with a cult following to where they are now in only, what.... 30 years?

If I recall correctly, QMF was launched sometime around 1982 and they beat LRS in exactly one book. And that was LRS 102, the rock station, which hasn't existed for twelve years.

Other than the L, the R, the S, the 1, the 0, and the decimal point, what part of today's LRS is the same? Not one thing.

Part of the reason QMF beat LRS 102 thirty years ago is that they had a far superior signal. LRS got their butts kicked and was forced to change formats because once they were behind, they had no real chance to catch up.

That's the same reason WRKA dropped Adult Contemporary and switched to Oldies in 1988- because WVEZ decided to take over AC, and we at WRKA knew we didn't have the signal to compete with them.

That's also why 103.5 in Radcliff was never a serious competitor of WRKA, despite 15 years of trying.

That's also why the only serious competitors WAMZ ever had were 1077 The Hawk, and Q 103.1.

Signal isn't the only thing, but it's a BIG factor. All other things being equal, a vastly superior signal wins.

That's why I'm having a really hard time believing WLRS had 4 shares in 2005. Are you adding together the shares of every book that year?

Hi greg i am just talking about the overall 6 plus number it was a 4 share maybe even higher in like spring of 2005. But on the other hand i was told that lrs never made a penny at 105.1.

I saw it on the now defunct radio and records websight. I know those numbers really dont matter much. It is whats in the numbers sound famaliar just like the presidential race.

It certainly took years for 102.3 to get a format that works and they are maxing in on it lol

Wonder if 105.1 will ever figure it out. Poor little 105.1 signal

LRS 102 found CHR success until 99.7 went CHR again as DJX and the rest has been a parade of formats.

105.1 works on paper but reality is different. Even with the upgrade a few years ago it can't cover the market and may the radio gods help it when a tropo wipes them off the dial. It managed to have some numbers doing rock with the LRS calls but there hasn't been much success beyond that.

Yes, it looked good getting away from the shadowing there were experiencing with Mitchell Hill....but by moving to Mitchell Hill, they had to pull back the power to protect Scottsburg, Indiana. Overall, it's probably a wash in the real world. They probably would have done better moving over to the old WRVI tower. At least there, the null to protect Scottsburg would not be over the area you are trying to service.
