Tune In...

> It was fun to listen in those days

I listen around a lot. I admit that I listen for jocks, not music, and all the imaging, presentation, and entertainment factors that I grew up with.

There are still a few places to hear people having fun on the radio. Jack Armstrong still does his show his way on KB. I'll admit that I sample it on a limited basis.

Harv Moore does bits, drop-ins, and some darn funny stuff on WHTT. He may make you groan occaisionally, but you still have to smile. I'll admit I'm partial to their music since they've moved into the '70s and away from the Doo-Wop. I also think Jim Pastrick has settled into mid-days nicely and is smooth, subtly funny, and solid. Even some of their part-timers are a cut above average.

Norton & Co., the rest of the 97-Rock crew, and Shredd & Ragan all have their moments. I hear that Clay Moden & Co. on WYRK are pretty good, but I'm just not a country fan and haven't really heard them. Janet Snyder & her posse may be aging out of the kid demographic, but they entertain.

The more I travel around the country, the more I think that Buffalo has some very good radio for its market size. Yes, we have our share of soul-less, corporate jukeboxes and ho-hum liner readers, but there's still some jump left in the old joint.

It was fun to work in those day!

David Marsden is still doing it his way Thursdays and Fridays on 94.9 The Rock (www.therock.fm) and weekly on Pulver Radio (www.pulverradio.com-consult their schedule page).
For the rest of the Americans on this board who don't know the name, Marsden was an anchor of CHUM FM in the early 70s when it was a truly progressive rock station...then he went on to create CFNY-the spirit of radio before it became Edge-ified. In the 60s he was Canada's most popular top 40 jock under the name Dave Mickie. His current shows feature music from all three eras. Also, he is the only radio personality recognized in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame under two different names.

Marsden was/is a classic. I enjoyed him more on CHUM-FM in the progressive days, although his work on CFNY was very good as well.

But there's another quote I recall from back in the day when a certain WPhD jock, while signing on, said, "for the past four hours you've been listening to David Khan doing his very best imitation of David Marsden..."

Priceless! (Funny, and very cold!)

Mike, you are honing your sites a bit too close for comfort!!!
I'm beginning to think you be the brightest person on this board.

Now that, to some people who read and post, is a scary thought! ;)

Still I would say that you and I might be the only people reading that who understand what it means...
Then again, one of my biggest problems on air wa too many "in" jokes.
