PHOENIX RHYTHMIC RADIO
After my recent visit to Tucson on SATURDAY NIGHT, I must say I'm counting my blessings and being very thankful for the radio stations (especially the rhythmic top 40 sounds) we have here in Phoenix!
I was a bit pissed when I found out we were going to Tucson around 5:30pm on Friday and I had to drive! Therefore, I had to go. Not that it's that big of a deal, but I had to miss just about all of Club Kiss in the mix starting at 6pm and pretty much most of anything else that was going on on Phx radio Sat. night, only to go to Tucson and find out KRQ has NO mixes on Saturday (at least before I left after 12am...).
Tucson's Hot 98.3, which is rhythmic, pretty much "saved the day", but other than that, if you are a dj and a big fan of mix shows (that also contain uptempo hits), you're pretty much doomed once you leave Phoenix. I'm not even sure if they did anything after 12am!! Yes, there was also a spanish station mixing some dance in english and spanish, but 101.5 JamZ came in A LOT clearer, which is what I spent most of my time going back to in Tucson, anyway.
Well, I'm just counting my blessings. I love Phoenix. On the way home AFTER twelve, I got to hear
MEGA 104.3
101.5 JAMZ
104.7 KISS FM3
99.3 THE BEAT
POWER 98.3 FM
ALL in the mix. KVIB and KMVA stop mixing at 12, so that was too bad.
To be perfectly honest, I didn't really take time to listen to ALL those stations in one night - I'm just trying to cheekily point out how far we've advanced as a city in Phoenix radio-wise in addition to saying we're better ;D. There was once a time when I had to turn to trying to pick up Tucson radio to hear the rhythmic hits I loved. There was even a time when I wanted to be in L.A! Now, THAT'S ALL CHANGED....
I give much thanks and appreciation to everyone in Phoenix who takes time and dedication to provide us with all the rhythmic and top 40 formats we currently have.. and I'm only CHOOSING to just acknowledge the rhythmic side of things right now. I could bring up other Phoenix formats and brag more if I wanted to... ;D
