I see Dumb Company ( Radio One ?? ) .

As for employers bouncing my paycheck -- been there, done that! ;D ;D

As for working in a business/job that you truly love - how can it get
any better than that? If I work for you - your format is my priority.
If management tells me that they want to, say, go to an all Polka format -
get down, get funky - let's polka! ;)

Back to the Topic . As far as I know of, Sunday Morning Church Programs, is the only local shows on 1090 . I will like see one of those Church ( Nation of Islam or The Baptist Church ) buy 1090 .

And that's what I'm saying too--go ahead, get Mindich to put a station like that on and see if it'll
be a big success. (Remember Jon Sinton of Air America was quoted as saying, back in 2004,
that progressive talk would be on 600 stations "in five years". 3 1/2 yrs later, it's alive but not so
well...maybe 40-80 stations at most? Successful in Portland, OR, maybe...and since "Air America 2.0"
came aboard I have heard of one station picking it up (Atlantic City) while Memphis and perhaps
San Diego will drop it. Reasons: not owning stations (relying on the likes of Clr Chnl to put it on),
no local daily hosts, weak signals, agenda-driven, etc.

I'm just saying if they think they can do a successful job in putting it back on in Boston--on a station
they'd own, more power to them. Hey, I'm a capitalist. If people can buy books by fat Michiganers
about how dumb the President is, see movies by failed Presidential candidates about how "the planet
has a fever", and continually vote in one-party government, surely there must be a market for
prog talk. Or is everyone tuned to NPR instead? Dec 21, 2007 will mark one year since prog talk
left the Boston airwaves. Will it be back by then...?

>>A prediction: one year from today, both groups will still be whining, and accomplishing nothing.

I'd tend to agree, but if Mindich, er, put his money where his mouth is...
Actually there is liberal talk in Boston.....it's the very station we are posting about in this thread. News Talk 1090. Problem is our so-called libs aren't liberal enough to listen to their progressive talk on a black owned station.
As far as the fairness doctrine, those stats they quote when they cry about too much conservative radio? They don't include 'ethnic' stations. How absolutely patronizing.

My personal agenda - to make a living in the broadcast business (as I have done for 20+ years), working for legal, legitimate stations, which operate under the law.

20+ years, huh? Well good for you! (No sarcasm intended there) ... I salute anyone who can sustain a career for that long in a field which they enjoy.

My only issue with you is when you called out raccoonradio for "whining" and "pushing a political agenda" when he was simply suggesting alternatives to what is out there now.

I have paid my dues, and put in my time. I would bet that you have not done so...

Not a safe bet there, Mr. WLYNgm. You assume... too much. ;)

Wouldn't it be inaccurate to presume that ethnic stations are progressive? (as I pointed out the last time you brought this up - when I tuned into WILD the male host said he thought the husband was the rightful head of the household - do you think this is a progressive viewpoint?)

Wouldn't it be patronizing to presume that ethnic stations are progressive? In fact, many people I know who have moved to the US from developing countries are social conservatives and fiscal liberals (if they were poor at home) or they are social and fiscal conservatives (if they were wealthy at home).

Wouldn't the migration of white progressive listeners to ethnic stations dilute the 'ethnicity' of the stations? Is this really what you want? Wouldn't this change the advertising demographic and therefore influence the programming?

WILD -WFNX

"progressive talk" format actually buy the station

Stephen Mindich, come on down! While it is daytime only, it would be something at least. As I've
suggested before, he could set up "Boston Phoenix Talk Radio"--just build a studio or two at
the 'FNX studios. They could run local and national progressive talk shows and maybe have
some shows that would interview local musicians, artists, actors, and so on. Interview folks
from NORML about the effort to repeal pot laws. Have a band or musical artist come down to play live (maybe
one that would appeal to slightly older folks than the 'FNX demo--hey, have Don White
come down and sing about being from Lynn! Or do stations like WUMB or smaller college outlets already have
that covered pretty well?)

I don't know if he has the money but he might... WFNX (AM) 1090 and -FM 101.7. Who knows.
Might even make some money...the Phoenix does.

I like that idea of WFNX buying WILD to put on progressive talk. Who better to program talk than a truly independently owned station.

Actually might sound really good - Henry Santoro could do his own morning show !

Finn, the democratic party prides itself on being the party of 'diversity', and of racial minorities. Well Blacks time and time again are the Democratic party's most faithful voters. Yet liberals try to hide any hints of conservatism coming from the black population. Ironic that the most devoted democrats overwhelmingly support school prayer. That's just one example. I just think liberals need to get real about who their consituents are and what they really believe.
