I sent an email to dale schaefer at mainline asking him about certain stations

I can't wait for Eddie Metal in the Morning! That's gonna ROCK.

I heard rocky doing a promo for his show and yes no music just talk i bet it will be pretty cool to listen to.

This is what i mean by thinking outside the box. A former rock jock doing a talk show and its local kudos to 1570 ;D

Actually, Rocky has some prior experience in talk radio. For a few months, Rocky and Troy were doing a 9 a.m. to noon talk show on 790 after they wrapped up the QMF morning show. This was around 2000 or 2001 (the last few months of 790's talk format)

I do vaguely remember that. I said earlier he will do well. He did well filling in for Cindi Sullivan on WAVE 3 Listens.

Rocky has always done well at whatever he tried. No reason this should be any different.

There is one reason he may get off to a rough start: signal. This is a bad time of year for Rocky to start his show. WNDA is only 233 watts on their nighttime signal. (Does anyone know if they have PSSA?)

WNDA powers up to full power in December at 7:45 am, when Rocky's show is more than half over. In January it's 8:00. February 7:30, and March, 7:00.

233 watts on 1570 is pretty dismal. They do pretty well on their daytime 1500 watts, but the night signal doesn't do well downtown or on the east end.

Coming home from a TN trip Sunday night, I remembered that the Colts aired on 1570 and indeed the 233 watts wasn't of much use until just south of the river & it was pretty well toast by the 10 mile post on 65. The only redeeming quality is that there are actually people in the area where the signal is useful at night. All too many AM sites have more cows than people nearby.

I worked in the lou market years ago! and one thing i can say is there is ALOT of real good talent in that market. It's just too bad that alot of the suits were way out of touch with that market. The Fox had a great local line up with stern/vanetti/bob and craven.hell even there partimers were good with frank and triple x and chris.the last time i came threw there none of those floks were there anymore. But the funny thing was alot of the suits still were woking!Rocky is a great talent and he will be fine. When I read he was back on I was thinking it was on the 102 sig.not the lower 105.For the life of me I can't understand why they would do a classic rock format and that station.(they don't have a shot with But that kid of thinking is killing the rock format all over! good luck rocky! Maybe talk radio is the new rock radio! ;) ;) ;)

Lrs is on its way out i give it till early next year for if the suits were gonna keep it they would not have fired everyone but the signal sucks what can you do with a bad signal?

Did anyone catch his first show this morning?

Patrick.. When did WDJX ever play any great deal of Alternative? I remember in the early 90s they leaned on Dance Music, and the mid 90s they had an Adult Friendly 80s and now format,, Since the late 90s DJX leaned rhythmic, and over the past few years they have became a more balanced CHR.

When djx owned 1080 a.m. in the early 90s they were part time altrenative two till midnight. About the same time we had Q2 105.9 which was full time alternative both were good but 1080 i think was news the rest of the time or something along those lines.

Okay I see what you mean,, they only used the 1080 AM for the alternative,,I SEE.... I always thought that 1080 was a full time simulcast of the fm,, and I think around the mid 90s they did simulcast for awhile,, Please,Patrick or if anyone else know the history of the AM 1080 and DJX relations, let me know.. I do remember Q ROCK 105.9 or Q-2 as politically correct term,, also the early LRS on 102.3 and at first attempt at 105.1 was good and true Alternative,,,, She 93.1 was good Female Adult Friendly Alternative,, but they didnt play the hard stuff.. I really thought the 93.1 signal back then was good inside the 165 corridor, but it didnt make it into Indiana or over toward Lexington very good, However I could still hear it in E-town back then.

Actually WDJX didn't own AM-1080. 1080 owned DJX. Or that's the way it would have been back in the day.

1080 was the real radio station, WKLO. And they had an FM... what was it? WCSN? I -think- that's correct. It played beautiful music. And of course, WKLO played top 40.

Then in about 1978 it became "the New KJ-100" on both AM and FM. CC Matthews was the PD. (A very young CC by the way.) KJ100 seemed to really take off. They had "lateral replays" between the FM and the AM. If you heard a song on the FM you liked, tune to the AM and you could hear it again!

The AM later became WCII ("Country 11") and a long list of other formats and call sign changes as AM skated to obscurity.

KJ100 FM became WDJX, which it has been since the early 80s. In 1987 both WDJX and 1080 AM moved from their studios on Muhammad Ali to 612 S. 4th, the current Cox Radio location.

In 1996 the stations were owned by first Regent, then Jacor. By then they already had 107.7, and had an LMA with 103.9. That year came the deregulation of ownership caps.

There was another company in town, Prism Radio Partners, at 520 S. 4th- where Main Line is now. They owned 790 AM, 100.5 the Fox, and Lite 106.9. Those assets were split, and 1080 was thrown in. And that was when 99.7 and 1080 split up.

In the end, Clear Channel owned 790, 840, 1080, 97.5, 98.9, and 100.5.

Jacor owned 900, 99.7, 102.3, 106.9 & 107.7, and they LMA'd 103.9.

What never made sense to me was kj100 kicking but then they segway into this ac station magic 100 and louisville was left without chr then wjyl at 101.7 was briefly chr and then in july of 1985 magic 100 which is the postioner 99.7 went by at the time. Then at midnight 99.7 played an hour of christmas carols and became 99.7 djx.

I liked the adult standards format on 1080 the best.I could not listen to it all the time but cool tunes i think they are.

It isn't much of a talk station

I don't remember Magic 100, but I was out of the market from late 1979 until 1986. Thanks for filling in the gap, HotP.

Also- I screwed up part of my story. 102.3 came over as a separate acquisition.
