ABC just happened to have a historically poor performing signal in Chicago and a cheap oldies format to stick on it so that worked their but NYC is a lost cause for oldies and Chicago will prove it in the future as well.

Re: I Smell a Format Flip too!

How about Mongolian-Britpop-Punk-Gothabilly-Classical?

I heard the suits think it's viable, according to All Access. Expect WQCD, WQXR, WKTU, WXRK, WAXQ, -and- CBS-FM to flip to this promising format within the next two months...

I'm not dissing anybody...but c'mon! All Access has good stuff, but they like to stir the s**t just like all of us...

Sorry, had to comment...

I'll return back home where I belong

Besides, ABC's radio division is for sale anyway. Why would they want to blow up WPLJ at this point? The station is making money. Why would they want to risk a short term revenue hit by changing format now? If anything, ABC putting satellite oldies on WZZN allowed the station to slash overhead and make it look better to potential buyers. They don't have to dress up WPLJ to sell it off. My guess is WPLJ's new owners will not consider oldies and whoever winds up with WZZN will drop the format soon after closing.

I would imagine that 95.5 is worth more as PLJ than as Scott Shannon's true oldies channel. (heritage signal, bills higher)

What ABC flipped in Chicago was stale for its entire existance, and the format change should have come years ago. But, typical ABC, even their new format is beyond stale because they wont spend any money.

You should hope that PLJ doesnt turn into a satellite-run jukebox.
