I stumbled on this....

I was just suprised to find it and had to share it. I did a google search for some KRBE history and at the bottom of the first page it read:

"BOYFRIEND SUSPECTED IN DJ'S SLAYING"

1.) BOYFRIEND SUSPECTED IN DJ'S SLAYING

HOUSTON -- A radio disc jockey has been found dead in her apartment, apparently after being strangled by her boyfriend, who later fatally shot himself with a rifle, police say.

The bodies were discovered in bed about 8 p.m. Wednesday when the woman's co-workers at KRBE-FM became concerned and called Houston police. Kimberly Fullilove, 27, who worked under the name of Kasi Love, was probably killed Tuesday night, police say. Police had not released the name of the 22-year-old man

I remember this and the mood of the jocks after it happened. The day of her funeral I remember Scott Sparks doing a brief eulogy on the air and then they played all of her sweeps and jingles with her name one last time. Was really sad.

I met Kim in 1977, while I was on the air at 1230 KNUZ. I knew her quite well. Kim liked radio and I showed her the ropes of how to run a board. She went to Waltrip High School back in those days. When she told me her last name was Fullilove, I laughed at her and told her I didn't believe it. When she showed me Algebra homework with her name on it, she laughed at me. She was a lot of fun. She always smiled. There is more. In fact, this question about Kim came up a few years ago on this very board. I gave a more detailed post at that time.

I also remember this well as I listened to 104 at the time. It was indeed a sad time in Houston radio. May it never be repeated again in Houston.

Houston has lost several people in radio and TV over the years. There was a man that worked in the Sports Department at one of the TV stations (I believe Channel 2) that was killed in a rollover wreck on the North Freeway, I think in the 90's. A News Anchor was raped in the Channel 11 parking lot late at night after her shift. She left the station and Houston after the incident. An excellent News Person that Houston lost. Just before I moved to Houston KODA had their Traffic copter crash and kill at least one. Fox News had their News Copter crash and kill the pilot during the 9pm News in the 2000's. I'm sure there are other unfortunate incidents that have happened prior to 1979 or I have forgotten at the moment.

Mike, are you thinking (instead of Sports), one of the reporters on KTRK that was killed between Conroe and Huntsville in a rollover on 45 and he was thrown out of the station's SUV because he wasnt wearing a seatbelt???

I recall when Kim was killed...she was cute and intelligent...iirc, she had a college degree in another field but wanted to do radio instead....(egads!)....what a waste of a great talent and a beautiful life when her b/f ended it all......damn....

If I remember correctly, the KRIV copter crash was around Christmas time in either 2001 or 2002. KHOU sent their copter out to the crash site (in a neighborhood) and KRIV ended up airing KHOU's Live footage as Mike Barajas gave a narrative of the events. I remember Barajas keeping his composure even though his station just lost a valued employee. KRIV's copter was on it's "way home" to Hooks Airport in Klein after a day's work when the crash occurred. At one point I think all 5 of the Houston TV stations (KPRC, KRIV, KHOU, KTRK & KHTV-39) that did news (English language) were showing video/discussing the story.

Steven Gauvain, 1996, KTRK-TV Nasa Reporter and one of the candidates to be a journalist in space or something. He was riding in a Ford Explorer with Firestone tires, one of which blew, causing the vehicle to roll over. Curiosity on the part of KHOU's investigative reporters led to the whole national story involving Explorers and Firestones and won a National award for KHOU (Pulitzer?)

I remember seeing it live. It was in 2000

Way back in the early 70's I barely recall a news/traffic reporter in a small plane crashing while broadcasting. I was just a kid but, recall he was reporting on a large fire and the plane got caught up in the updraft and crashed during the report.

I don't remember the name or station.

Johnny Gilbert was a DJ for 790 KULF. Johnny also gave traffic reports from the "KULF Bird." He went to cover a fire, when he got caught up in the up draft.

The other 'bird' crash was the "KODA Bird" helicopter.Click the following link for more details. Scroll down to: "1964 to 1965. A discontinuous recording of various Houston stations, including KXYZ, KODA, KILT, KNUZ, and KPRC."

"Of special interest are recordings from October, 1964, of the ill-fated Kodabird traffic helicopter. Operated by KODA-AM, October 12 recordings feature Ted Carr broadcasting from the helicopter. Carr jokes about flying. Followed by October 14 KXYZ coverage of the Kodabird crash and somber announcements on KODA."

Hey 50K, when were you and Kim at 104.5?? I am curious (this was during the time KOLE owned them?)...we probably have several mutual friends

Hey CW,

Yeah, KOLE was the am, both stations owned by AL Leighton at the time, I worked at KZOM from 1980 thru the end of 83'. Kim was at zoom for about 8 months or so & then had gone back to Houston, she had also done nights at KHFI in Austin for a while. ya know we probably do know alot of the same folks !

Kim and I were roommates for a brief period just before her death. I was working nites at Classic Rock 1070 (KRBE-AM) while she worked about the same shift on the FM, and we became friends.

One day, after I had moved out and into my own place, she called to ask if I would look after her dog for about 24 hours while she did a marathon movie remote. Afterward, she phoned again to thank me for feeding and walking "Pistol," and I recall she was really upbeat about meeting a guy at the remote. They soon started dating ... and he apparently was the guy who eventually killer her!

Kim led a life of sensuality and experimentation. She had many stories to tell me of her experiences. This was vogue in the 1970s and 1980s. Ronnie Renfro on KIKK will confirm it. I won't go into details, because this will be lengthy enough. I've told this story before. However, I couldn't find it in the Radio-Info files. Therefore, for those of you who do not know, I will impart this to you.

Kim went into the military for a short while; did her stint and got out. When she came back to Houston, she came by KNUZ and visited me. She asked if she could run the board, even though it had been about 18 months since she did it the last time. She didn't forget a thing. She asked me who was on KQUE on the other side of the building. I told her it was Bill Gordon. She said she wanted to meet him. I told her to go for it. Within 5 minutes, she came back and told me that he was a no-good &^$*&%#. I asked what happened. She told me she was leaving with no explanation. Within 2 minutes of that Bill came over and was white as a ghost. (Bill was a 'numerologist.' He was big on numerology; life was based on numbers.) He trembled as he told me, "Tiller, she is going to die tragically! I looked at her and I saw nothing." Bill was really frightened by all of that. He pleaded with me to never let her in again. Well, he didn't have to worry about that. She already made that decision. He explained what he found in the numbers. This was 1979.

In 1986 or 87, Kim called me from KRBE and told me she found a headset with my name on it and did I want it back. She thought I had left it there when I worked there in 1982. That was the last time we had a conversation.

Early one morning on KILT, Jay Kmiec rushed into the KILT controlroom and told me the news of her demise. My mind flashed on Bill Gordon and what he told me years ago about Kim.

Kim was a free spirit. She had a lot of men friends. The guy she moved in with was from West Columbia, Texas. It is possible that he couldn't handle it. He killed her and then killed himself.

I did not attend her funeral, as it was the same day that my uncle had his services.

"The guy she moved in with was from West Columbia, Texas. It is possible that he couldn't handle it. He killed her and then killed himself."

I know it is a long shot but does anyone remember this guys name? I am only asking because my girlfriend is from West Columbia and seems to know everyone or at least a family member of everyone from there.

I was digging though old tapes that I had of the old power mix shows. I was scanning through KRBE's new years eve edition 87-88 and found her name jingle as well as the live remote with her and the KRBE crew doing the countdown from somewhere (they never say where they are). If anyone would like to hear it I'd be happy to upload it and post a link.

I just emailed it to you, Chuck.

I listened to it again as I was creating the mp3, the NYE location was the Adams Mark Hotel... just up the street from the station.
