I think it's time for Joint-Chinese to step forward.

Looks quaint, from what's on the web site.
The aircheck of the late Chuck Stevens is ARCHIVAL stuff.
How many folks came?

It was a tremendous evening for anyone who has been in radio before voicetracking became the method of operation. It served as the best radio reunion in many years. Frank Colletta introduces John Franks (the former owner of WHJJ?WHJJ) presenting the award in honor of Sherm, and Frank mentions that John gave him his first job in Providence radio. In the audience is Bob Fish who bought the stations from him. There were hundreds of scenarios like this. Many of us in the business for a while have had exposure and friendship with every inductee, sort of like watching Forrest Gump. Wally Brine proudly accepted his dad's award from Larry "Ice Cold" who told a story about Salty getting really po'd at Aaron Daniels his General Manager. Apparently, this was far from the norm for Captain Brine. All in all a remarkable time.

Now I'm REALLY sorry I had to miss it!

Sounds very warm.

Salty was my dad's age, and Wally Brine and I are the same age.

Larry Kruger and I worked together in 1970, at WHYN/Springfield.
GREAT guy.
I introduced him to WPRO PD Jay Clark. Larry got here a year-or-so before I did.
See-and-hear him-and-Salty in this piece I saved from PM Magazine:

This RIRHOF is a great idea, great way to embrace a charity.

In future years, they should consider not-just-on-air-voices.
Sure, "names" will still draw a crowd.
But when you mention John Franks and Bob Fish, you're naming names too.
Folks we worked for at WPRO, i.e., Jay Clark and GM Dick Rakovan, would be appropriate for such recognition.

PS: Can ANYONE tell us how many folks came?

SINCE you asked...

"We've got amusement park fun, in the Rhode Island sun, come on down to Rocky Point..."

This was a classic case of "I told you to go before we left!"

Remember driving-into Rocky Point Park?
From the minute you passed through that famous entrance arch, your pulse quickened.
And as the entrance road wound past the Flume, you got even-more psyched.
Remember?

And remember how -- after every Flume ride -- you wanted to go-again?
So I was UP-for 100 laps, to shatter the previous 80-something record.

We had a special line for night time friends, so every ride was with HC Show fans.
Great plan, right?

Everything went well for the first 20-something laps.
Then...

How can I put this delicately?

I REALLY...and-I-mean-REALLY...had to go-to-the-bathroom.
Power-of-suggestion, y'know?

So I only made it to 63 laps, as in 63WPRO...and THAT particular number was just-to-save-face.
I was in at-times-excruciating pain after 20-something laps, and I had a long line of loyal listeners.
Some of whom were hot babes.

I was in SUCH EXTREME discomfort that I actually considered "going the astronaut route," if you know what I mean.
Hey, who'd know?
After only-the-first-several-laps, I was drenched anyway, from the aggregate Big Splash at the end of each ride.
And I was wearing swim trunks.
And you'll remember that the log itself was, at times, half-full of water.
So even the HC fans riding-along wouldn't know.

Remember that Seinfeld episode when George took Jerry's sofa after Papi peed on one of the cushions?
George just flipped-over the cushion...and his father FLIPPED when he found out.
"I'VE BEEN SLEEPING IN URINE!"
I just couldn't do that to those voices-on-the-request-line-who-were-suddenly-smiling-faces.

So after lap #63, I SPRINTED to the loo, and took a Fenway Park-type whiz...and the record went unchallenged.

I subsequently, politely, told this story on-air, and Salty told me he HOWLED when he heard it.

"Ride the rides and get cool, in our salt water pool. It's a place for family fun. We've got your summer at Rocky Point."

Something I noticed that was quite glaring at the ceremony, besides WPRO-AM, there was quite a dearth of current on air people at the ceremony (obviously Charlie Jefferds from Lite and Paul & Al & Steve Mc Donald were there from HJY). Buddy & Ron & Dan were there; but missing were most of the other local on air personalities. I believe most of the PD's were in the building; but I expected to see more current people there (and both Clear Channel & the sister Citadel stations of WPRO-AM share in this one).

.... On a radio salary, you expect these people to pay $50 a pop to go to a dinner? Nope. I'm sure they all went home, enjoyed their Raman Noodles/Microwave pizza and congratulated Charlie/Paul and Al the next day.

I think for an initial induction ceremony (especially co workers, who are NOT eating Raman Noodles) they should have been there...I can see those who were on air (Art, Matt, JBuff, Geoff, Bina, etc) wouldn't be there; but there are plenty of on air people in both buildings who should have been there....and $50 for dinner is a drop in the bucket on some of the nights out these people have on a regular basis (for some of them, it's their bar bill) especially when it is a tax write off as it benefitted A Wish Come True.

I did say in the previous post that Dan was there as well as Ron & Buddy. Saw Ron Medeiros from Fun as well.

I think Joint-Chinese is awesome !!! Always a fresh perspective from him/her.

Popular opinion is that JointChinese is Dave Barber. Of course, there's no solid proof...just what everyone on the Trail thinks.

I think it's funny that everyone on the trail sits and talks about this board. But in any event you may be right. Isn't Dave from Michigan? Post #57 from JointChinese mentions the following:

57 OTHER LOCAL MARKETS / Raleigh/Greensboro / JOE WADE FORMICOLA on: June 19, 2007, 12:48:52 pm
I am an old friend of Joe's from his days in Michigan and lost his home telephone number. Has he landed on his feet and does anyone know how I may reach him?

It's always fun to go back and read a persons posting history after finding out their real identity. It certainly offers a new perspective on things. LOL

But what does THE NAME "Joint-Chinese" mean???

Ladies and Gentlemen,

Good evening FROM Michigan.
But I can assure you that I am NOT Joint-Chinese.

Based on things I'VE gleaned from J-C's posts, he/she MUST work In The Building...

I still do not have Joe Formicola's number! Can someone help me?

D'Joint
