I think KZZO or KSFM (maybe both) should switch to AMP Radio. :D

100.5 and 102.5 could make a great station for AMP Radio in Sacramento. It could compete even more with HOT and The End. Possible slogan. "AMP it UP and cool down HOT and finish THE END. Some people may get the slogan. However, because KSFM serves West Sacramento well and KZZO serves the rest of Sactown, they could combine and become the first AMP Radio simulcast in AMP Radio's 6 year history! KZZO is Hot AC and KSFM is Rhythmic CHR, so they should combine to become Mainstream CHR/Top 40. Or 100.5 could be CHR seperately, same goes for 102.5. Here are the logo concepts for 100.5, 102.5 and if both turned out to be AMP Radio. Sorry if too small. :(

CBS' radio division isn't comprised of idiots. They have likely considered that, done the market research, and decided against it ... or they're planning to do exactly that, without waiting to consult a radio message board for ideas first.

Any idea what their ratings are in 18-34? If they are solid, they don't need to change a thing.

Averaging Jul-Aug-Sept KDND is 4th in 18-34 while KSFM is 2nd.

Neither is a station likely to change name or format.

"Amp" is a name, not a format. All the Amp named stations are distinctly tailored for their market... right down to the LA station tossing in an occasional reggaetón tune.

I know. But KSFM serves more of Western Sacramento and KZZO serves more Eastern Sacramento (near Reno). BTW, that's The End 107.9, not KZZO. Oh, but KZZO is #4, overall and KSFM is #9 overall according to ****************'s Sacramento ratings. Look at these coverage maps from Radio Locator! If it weren't a simulcast, KSFM would work as it's the lowest overall rated CBS Radio station, but still, if you compare it by age group, then things are different. :)
Maybe they could rename 99.7 in San Fran to AMP as they are already Mainstream Top 40.

You are neglecting two things:

1. The 12+ ratings are valueless, which is why they are given away for free. In 18-34 and 18-49, both of those CBS signals are very strong contenders. What you should also look at is billings. All 4 CBS FMs have almost identical billing at +/- $300 k from an average of $5 million. Nobody is going to mess with these.

2. about 90% of the market population is in northern Sacramento County, and the closest parts of Placer and Yolo and El Dorado counties. Both of those signals are functionally full market signals.

Simulcasting would mean dropping a $5 million billing format to add nothing to the remaining station with a nearly 100% in-market duplication of signals. Remember, if it is not in the 4 previously mentioned counties and Nevada County, listenership to those signals is of no importance at all.

Let's also remember CBS uses the AMP radio branding for stations that are struggling. CBS Top 40 stations that are doing well, such as 99.7 Now in San Francisco, will likely keep that branding. Why invest in a campaign to reeducate everyone about a new identity if the station is already at or near the top of its target demographic? KMVQ San Francisco is usually top 5 in the 18-34 and the 25-54 race, sometimes reaching #1.

As David tells us, KSFM and KZZO in Sacramento are also doing well in their target demos. They compliment each other well. KSFM is mostly rhythmic Top 40 and KZZO is Hot AC, or maybe it would better be called Adult Top 40. Its slogan is that it plays the hits without the rap, which is what you can already hear on KSFM. Maybe the two signals don't perfectly overlap each other, but both are strong in and around Sacramento and its suburbs, which is where most of the population lives. And each can earn a separate stream of ad money. So there's no need to combine their programming and have only one revenue stream.

CBS's Top 40 station in New York was struggling, so it took on the AMP Radio I.D. And CBS acquired WRDW in Philadelphia, which also had poor ratings, so CBS put the AMP Radio identity on that station. But that's not the case in Sacramento or San Francisco.

I suggest that this thread is all about the OP's wanting change just for the sake of change, which is never a good business model. Let's just stop talking about it so he can leave quietly before he is tempted to post another follow-up which will do little more than embarrass him further.
