i was down in philly today on business and the WJJZ signal seems much stronger in philly this evening than it was just this morning. could it be? did the infamous, long awaited tower change occur? everyone tune in and report if i am correct
 
I would have to agree with you. I just tuned into 97.5, and the signal appears stronger. It barely came in here just outside of Reading, PA before. Now, I can pick it up at a fair signal. I have to set my tuner for 97.45 on my stereo to avoid co-channel interference from 97.7 WRTI translator in Reading.
 
Another classic example of a non-com that has NO business in the Commercial band.
 
that damn Reading translator 97.7 makes it as far north as into the mountains of PA, schuylkill county i think is the name of the county. how powerful is that thing? a shame that it interferes with WJJZ.
 
They are on the Mermaid Lane tower, the signal in South Philly is super strong....will OGL complain....or do they have a legit complaint.....
 
Here in Ocean County, the signal is diminished, but I can still pull it with some rotation of the antenna. Definitely not coming from Ingham Avenue in Trenton any longer.

WJJZ is currently operating under program test authority, issued a few days ago:

In checking around I didn't see any formal complaint being filed with the FCC by WOGL. Fact is, they might have known about WJJZ's plans to move to Philadelphia even before the application was filed. It was a very complicated move since WJJZ was operating under "grandfathered" short-spaced rules from Trenton, and they still are. Several interference issues had to be addressed, but WOGL wasn't really the major problem. Third-adjacent channel spacing between Class B stations simply isn't that big of a deal when compared with co-channel or first-adjacent separation.

By moving the WJJZ antenna, in some cases the amount of accepted interference was reduced substantially (e.g., co-channel WALK on Long Island). WJJZ moved further away from WALK, of course, but much closer to WXKW-FM 97.3 in Millville NJ. In that case, the WJJZ pattern was adjusted to reduce interference levels. So potential interference areas still exist; they've just been shifted around with the move. In my estimation, having the grandfathered short-spaced status might have actually helped in getting WJJZ's move approved, with virtually no change to their authorized Class B power level.
 
Will miss WJJZ in Central Jersey

It was nice listening to WJJZ when driving around Central Jersey. The station sounded better than Wqcd. It's funny how in a few months we wont have WQCD anymore. It doesn't bother me since I have my XM.

I know, it's a message for the NYC board, but is there some definite flip in WQCD's future?

97.3/Millville was splattering all over WJJZ on the Walt Whitman Bridge last night. There was a slight band opening from the shore; WJJZ was unlistenable on the 42 freeway.
 
as part of this new pattern, is wjjz possibly nulled to the north-west to protect WRVV Harrisburg and that Reading, PA 97.7 translator? i ask because 106.1 booms in all over berks county and even a bit into the coal regions of schuylkill county, but now while it is better than it was before the stick change, 97.5's signal out that way is still a lot to be desired with the signal out in the berks/schuylkill county regions. i was out that way this weekend. i figure its probably to protect the 97.3 in harrisburg and the 97.7 in reading, pa.
 
I'm very dissapointed in the 97.5 signal. I've been waiting for months to get a good signal and I barely notice any difference from when they were in Trenton. In my office in N Philly the signal strengh of 97.5 is the same as 94.5 and 99.5 which aren't in Phiily. 106.1 comes
in all over the Delaware Valley with a great signal and the towers are apparently very nearby to 97.5. How can WJJZ be that weak compared to WISX? Are they temporarily on low power?

If Emmis sells 101.9 WQCD to Univision which looks very possible, it will be spanish before a blink of an eye.

The pattern you see on Radio-Locator, which is basically circular, doesn't reflect the actual coverage. This map of the city-grade signal shows WJJZ's coverage of their community of license, Burlington: http://svartifoss2.fcc.gov/prod/cdbs/forms/prod/getattachment_exh.cgi?exhibit_id=380511

You're right about it protecting Harrisburg, and that's just as critical as protecting Millville to the south-southeast. But under FCC rules translators like the one in Reading aren't entitled to any protection from full-power stations.
 
WJJZ was (and still is) getting creamed by WALK here in West Windsor due to strong tropo. Coming from New Brunswick, there was no sign of WJJZ until I hit South Brunswick. I even heard WALK's IBOC hash on 97.7.
 
South Jersey right outside of Philadelphia sounds the same.
