I thought this was illegal

No. I suspect Hartford's location between the two home markets allows it to have both games at once.

By the way, what law would they be breaking????

Right now in Hartford we're getting 2 different MLB Games on FOX. We've got the Yankees-Angels game on FOX 61 and the Redsox-Orioles game on sister station CW 20 (still called WB 20). I thought it was illegal for two different games from FOX to be aired at the same time in the same market. BTW there's no WB 20 logo on the screen either.

Since Hartford is in the territory of both New York teams and the Red Sox, and since the FOX station is a duopoly, they may make an exception.
IIRC both the Dodgers and Angels were on FOX today, I imagine they did something similar in LA.

MLB granted Tribune Broadcasting rights to air both games. WTIC-TV (FOX) channel 61 of Hartford aired Anaheim @ New York while WTXX-TV (WB) channel 20 of Waterbury aired Baltimore @ Boston. Now I wonder if something like could occur during the NFL season? Do we have a week where the Giants and Patriots are on FOX at the same time? (In which case WFSB-TV of Hartford is airing a game from CBS.)

MLB seems to be awfully lenient towards Tribune Broadcasting when it comes to bending the Saturday blackout rules. Numerous times I've seen Cubs games on Saturday afternoons on WGN, even on the Superstation version here in Ohio. Granted, these games usually start at 3pm Chicago time and don't conflict with the local Fox Game of the Week broadcasts, which almost always run at 12pm on WFLD there. But I still don't get why they allow this when both Extra Innings and MLB.tv are blacked out from 1-7 pm EST on Saturdays.

If the Giants-Patriots game is on FOX, then there's NO WAY WFSB can air a game from CBS (Unless of course it involves the NY Jets, but even that is iffy at best).

But then too, I'm no lawyer, so....

Cheers :D

This weekend, the Rockies played host to the Chicago Cubs.

Take a WILD guess what was scheduled to be on the SuperStation from 1-4 MDT (The timeframe in which the game was supposed to be on) today while Gannett-owned KTVD 20 had the Rockies coverage (Which FSN Rocky Mountain produces BTW)....

Cheers :D

What I meant to say is that if the Giants and Patriots are both on FOX separately at the same time, what do we in greater Hartford do? Yes, the Patriots are usually on CBS here, both this DOES happen once in a while. The last time it happened, I think WTIC-TV (FOX) channel 61 of Hartford went with the Patriots. It's a no-brainer that Boston and Providence will get the Pats while NYC will get the Giants. We're the so-called "in-between" market and Springfield/Holyoke, MA doesn't have their own FOX affiliate.

In that case, I would think that, for this very reason alone, FOX (If not the NFL itself) would schedule one of the games for a 4:15 PM ET start.

But then again, just how many times does CBS do this when they have the Patriots and Jets on the same day but in seperate games?

Cheers :D

Why MLB gave Red Sox AND Yankees games to Hartford

A similar situation occurred in L.A. The Angels were playing at 1:20 ET/10:20 AM PT, so Fox provided that game to Fox-owned My 13/KCOP. The Dodgers were playing at 1:05 PT, so their game aired on Fox 11/KTTV.

BTW that won't happen next year as all Fox Saturday baseball will start at 3:30 ET/12:30 PT.

It happened last season in Week 11 (11/20), when the Fox network had Eagles-Giants and Saints-Patriots as 1 PM games. Fox 61 carried Eagles-Giants and caught hell for it even though that was the better matchup.

It may happen this season in Weeks 12 and 13. That of course will be subject to "Flexible Scheduling".

For real? I hadn't heard that. I guess this means the Cubs will have to play Saturday home games not scheduled for Fox at night or at 11:30 am Central time to avoid a conflict with the Fox broadcast.

That's kinda strange. You would think KTTV 11 would simply make a doubleheader out of it. Weird...

If this is true, it'll be interesting to see how it will affect day games aired on FSN and other local stations.

Just my $.02 worth....

Cheers :D

I wish Fox and MLB would do this, and I know this would never happen, is to air two local games in each market, with the local Fox station airing the best local game of interest, and have the FSN affiliate serving their particular market carry the second game. It would probably make better use of each of these FSN channels nationwide. Of course, many of these FSNs already have other committments, so it's kinda of a moot point.

if my soggy memory serves...years ago in the late 70s....due to some bizarre conflict, a New York Jets - New England Patriots game played at Foxboro...aired on CBS..who, at the time aired the NFC, while NBC had the AFC....and no it wasnt a pre season game
