So I just spent 2 weeks in New York on business, the majority of the time in the Rochester area and the most recent 3-4 days in the Buffalo area. (That "lake effect" snow stuff sucks!)
While in Rochester, I listened to a radio station that bills itself as "95.1 The Fox" (not sure of the call letters) and they claim on-air (usually by a voiceover guy) to play "Classic Hits". While their website (www.951thefox.com) claims it has an airstaff, very rarely did I ever hear anyone. I DID happen to hear a few minutes of the one and only Ed McMann a few evenings ago when he was doing a John Lennon tribute...at least I assumed it was the one and only Ed McMann since I'd never listened to him before although I'd seen his name mentioned on this website. And Ed is listed on The Fox's website's airstaff page. I also recall reading on this website in the past that Ed is usually voicetracked so I assumed he wasnt live but I dunno.
While in Buffalo, I listened to a Jack station called "92-9 JackFM" (call letters WBUF). As with all Jack stations, they had no airstaff except, in this case, they had Howard Stern in the mornings. Up until this point, I had never listened to a Jack station to any great extent (Mike-FM included) but I enjoyed the experience more often than not. But I did miss hearing dj voices. Too much voice-over guy.
So anyway, I drove home to the central Mass area last night (to beat the snowstorm). Exiting the Mass Pike in Auburn, I tuned in to WROR for the first time in 2 weeks hoping to hear a familiar voice (might it be Kristen Lessard? Karen Young? Kim Collins?) and the VERY FIRST THING I heard was that same voice guy from the Buffalo Jack station saying "Playing whatever we want...105.7 WROR" which then led into a song I dont recall. And the first thing I thought of was "OMG, did WROR get Jacked???? Did they throw Loren and Wally into the street after 25 years??"
About 20 minutes later, pulling into the driveway, I finally heard the familiar voice of Victor K and I knew all was right with the world. Or, with WROR anyway.
Whew! ;o)
