I want a new format!

It would really be nice if Milwaukee had some major format changes. I want one of the new formats - rhythmic AC or adult hits. Primarily either to WLDB B93.3, WMYX 99.1, or WTKM 104.9. All 3 of those stations suck and need to be changed. I want some rhythmic AC especially. I cannot believe a market as dead as Anchorage, AK gets a rhythmic AC. I already spend too much time at this computer listening to streaming radio - I want something that can be heard in my shower and car. There are so many things wrong with WMYX I could write a book about it. Bad on-air talent, music selection, and programming are the main things I have a problem with IMO. I hear other stations from other markets and if the rest of Milwaukee has as good music ear, they would think the same as I do. I mean, a polka station which is low in ratings? WTF? B93.3 sounds like stale bread really. The only station I care for is the Brew which isn't doing that great currently. Why don't we have one of those two formats? This REALLY stinks!

WTKM is a money maker, believe it or not. No changes there.
WMYX is very successful. No change there.
WLDB is still too new to know if they'll hang on.

Where do you REALLY live? Because judging from your frequent posts elsewhere here, you live everywhere...

Good gravy man - who is this cat? Anchorage is a dead market? Small market doesn't = dead my friend. Anchorage is an incredibly competitive market for how small it is (26 commercial signals with less than 300,000 people in the DMA). Good market on the radio front, and we are home to KTUU Channel 2 TV which is an Edward R Murrow award winner for overall news excellence and just recently was named Small Market Station of the Year by the National Press Photographers Association.

Perhaps we're a 'dead' market because heretofore we've been saved from the wide sweeping budget cuts found in markets that are 'alive' - does that not make for death? I'm sure victims of these budget cuts would vehemently disagree if you think otherwise.

I digress, Anchorage is a great market and a fantastic place to live - plus we make money off high energy prices - helps ease the burden of $3.30 gas - albeit slightly. This future PD (that can't form a cohesive sentence) can keep his dillusions of small market, igloo ridden Alaska - better for guys like me.

I apologize in advance Wisconsin-ites - it just ticks me off when people assume we suck and are all so small market minded just because we work in Alaska media. I'm sure the rest of you are all great, icycool should zip it until he has something to say worth reading.

Please pardon my mistake. When I said "dead market" I was not entirely talking about just Anchorage. I was talking about the entire state as a whole as in not being talked about frequently. What keeps getting talked about is bigger stations in bigger markets so to me, it did seem like a dead market. You notice there is no "Anchorage" board. If people talked about small market stations more than NYC or L.A. stations (and I have posted about this in the past) I wouldn't consider it to be so "dead." This is all I hear about these days.

This is not the topic of this thread though - it's frustrating that all other markets are getting what's currently popular in radio today and I feel Milwaukee is lacking in that. I have a right to my opinion and it is indeed, cohesive. You misread/misunderstood, I did not say you sucked - in fact, I rather like the Anchorage stations. I had simply meant I never hear anything about Alaska stations or for that matter many of the states in the northwest part of the U.S . It'd be different if it was talked about more and more active discussion.

To the other poster: I live here in WI. I post everywhere because I read other opinions and all about the latest format changes as well as listening to streaming radio. I have heard thousands of stations and indeed, these Milwaukee stations suck, at least to me that is.

WRIT reports to the trades as Adult Hits, though they're pretty heavy on the 60s-early 80s stuff. The Brew is pretty close in sound to the format.
