I watched an entire CBS Atlanta Newscast

What a waste of the airwaves. Last night I was watching an episode of Miami Medical and CBS Atlanta promo'd a story on The Flying Biscuit failing their health inspection. So, I was hooked... I wanted to see the story. Here are some notes:

--"Ask the tough question" must have been repeated in almost every story for the night.
--When trying to "ask the touch question" it seemed overly "fake" agressive by most reporters. It just did not come off as real.
--Dagmar was so sugary sweet that I thought I might need some insuline. Also, after doing the weather for the last year or more, you would think she might actually pick up some knowledge. Her weather vocabulary seems to consist of warm, cold, rain, wet, hot, and "over here".
--Dagmar spent more time promoing the weather than the actual forcast.
--The Flying Biscuit story was promo'd FOUR times during the newscast before the story was presented. All of the promos put together were twice as long as the actual story.
--PROMOS... I thought WSB-TV was bad about promoing stories... CBS Atanta seems to be a show of promos with a little news thrown in the middle.
--"All the news in the first five minutes." Well, that is fine and good except a one or two minute story is cut down to 15 seconds. The correct title should be "All the story titles we can read in the first five minutes."
--SWOOSH! After hearing this sound effect 20 times, I quit counting. Over and over and over and over we hear the swoosh. This is not a radio morning show wher sound effects are the norm. This is an newscast in a 10 ten market.

Okay... enough ranting on my part. Bottom line... it is bad. If they don't get someone in there who knows how to run a major market station, then CBS Atlanta will always be at the bottom of the ratings. Right now they deserve to be.

Barry,

I am so sorry for your misfortune. At least you won't watch again and over time, you may forget the horrors you have witnessed.

FOX 5 NEWS has a commerical for the I-Team attacking CBS Atlanta's "Tough Questions." I must admit I like Wendy Saltzman and Danille Knox at CBS Atl.

Amen. It seems that these reporters want the other Atlanta reporters to respect them so they are overly aggressive. Actually, the WGCL reporters come off as cocky, know-it-alls with their "Ask the Tough Questions." At their best, they seem juvenile; at their worst they come across as rude. Adam Murphy is the worst of the bunch.

Dagmar......Is the reason I watch CBS 46 ;D

Why? She isn't even all that attractive. I've seen female anchors in smaller markets that are easier on the eyes. I STILL think that Tribune should have kept so the station would have kept the "WGNX" call letters and more reputable news operation.

You must be mistaken. Dagmar isn't on CBS 46, she's on CBS Atlanta.

The Meredith Corporate Branding Police will be stopping by to wash your mouth out with soap for mentioning that they're on (gasp!) Channel 46!

I'm not in Atlanta, so I can't comment on Dagmar, though...

They have apparently "bet the family farm" on the TOUGH QUESTIONS image.

I was puzzled and amused that they sent a team all the way to Primrose the other night to get a picture of the church sign that proclaimed banishment to hell for certain people. And of course they got the pastor on camera and with great indignation "asked the TOUGH QUESTIONS".

I was so impressed I sent an e-mail to the News Director. I wrote that I had some TOUGH QUESTIONS for him.

(1) What is the problem being covered? If the listener/whistle blower had reported that the pastor said such a thing from the pulpit aurally, would a team be sent? Does it have to be a sign visible from the street to warrant coverage?

(2) What was the "Theological Skillset" of the team sent out? Were they trained and qualified to assess the responses from the pastor and fully unpack the story with some depth and expertise?

(3) I'm quite sure I can locate some houses of worship within "line of site" of the CBS Atlanta tower where the message about tickets to hell are proclaimed regularly. (Some of them are likely to be rather substantial.) Here is the TOUGH QUESTION: Why drive past fat, juicy targets in the metro area to ambush the junior-grade target in Primrose?

If I don't hear something back to my Tough Questions by tomorrow afternoon, I will probably cease holding my breath and return to the normal inhale/exhale routine again.

If it wasn't for them, I would've never knew about how nasty Taco Bell in Lithonia was.

Please, all you have to do is look at the health inspection score that show be posted near the front counter where you can order. Considering how much I used to love "channel 46", their current news operation is ridiculous and tired...

I am watching CBS Atlanta again tonight... mostly because it is like a traffic accident. It is so bad that I cannot look away.

--A story about Collier Rd being closed and how the detour is making the streets unsafe for "women" to walk on. WSB covered the same story at 6PM today and concluded the neighborhood streets were unsafe for ALL residents... not just helpless women.
--The "ask the tough question" story about brake repair rip offs is headlined "Brake shops are ripping off women".
--Dagmar can only be seen if you have an HD tv. On a standard 4:3 TV she consistantly stands where we only see half her body and half her face.
--Dagmar can't talk the technical weather talk so we go over to the "always close by" meteorologilst to talk about those high and low pressure systems.
--Yes, they are betting the farm on "ask the touch questions". How many times can the phrase be repeated in a 30 minute time slot? If you don't know, ask CBS Atlanta. I am sure they know the answer.

I got frustrated and tuned out. I can only take so much torture.... oh.. on a positive note. The "shoosh" is gone. They were playing the shoosh sound almost everytime they changed cameras. It is gone. I guess they figured out how bad it was.

It's obvious that Dagmar is a waste of money that could be used to pay for a real meteorologist full time that can cover North Georgia's frequently volatile weather.
