I went to the beach

Some general observations, rather than going to the appropriate topic.

I may have read this on this site, but all the way from Hamlet to Marion WEZV was completely blocked out by a gospel station. In past years I have heard WEZV all the way from Rockingham with some exceptions. This year I heard WEZV briefly in NC twice.

I commented on WEZV in the board for its format.

Wave 104.1 is not rocking very hard. A few years ago it was a hard rock station but ...

"Rhiannon" while Sunny is playing "We Will Rock You"?

"Listen to the Music" while Bob is playing 'Sweet Child of Mine"?

WKZQ also seems to have lost its edge, but that's been true for a while. Now 94.3 the Dam sounds more like what one would expect in Myrtle Beach. WKZQ was like that a few years ago.

Rock 107 just seems strange and all over the road.

The Bone is playing some newer alternative.

Charleston's oldies station at 98.9 had a good signal where I stayed and good music too.

Sunny and The Team each went off the air briefly.

WBSC was off the air. I didn't even see their row of towers. What I did see were towers for the electric cooperative.

I don't have time to find the thread but the WLAT sign is gone.

The Team suffered a pretty severe lightning strike almost two weeks ago. Surprised they weren't knocked totally off the air. They just got the phones back working properly today. As Sunny is in the same complex, I'd hazard a guess they were effected as well.

Did not know about 94.3 The Dam. Have to check that one out. WAVE 104 is pretty much a classic rock station now. WKZQ pretty much died when they changed the frequency. Of course, it was pretty close to death before that.

Rock 107, IMHO, decent enough and The Bone is pretty good. Just some observations from a novice who's lived here for a long time. The state of radio in the Grans Strand leaves a lot to be desired.

Sad, but true. I suppose I may be biased, but the decline of WKZQ into relative obscurity saddens me to no end. It really used to be cutting edge and a surefire DJ factory.

A couple more comments I forgot. I meant to put a link here to my thoughts on WEZV on another thread, but I forgot to.

I will say I don't like this Diane at Six person or whatever her name is. I wasn't usually in my motel room that time of day, but the cable channel with the real estate ads didn't have them, and they haven't had the music for years. So I turned on the radio. It seemed like this Diane person was always talking. There's only one place to go for good music! Don't talk instead! Who wants to hear the scoop on plants? Isn't that what talk radio is for?

Also, Bob Collins said they found Gladys Knight's "A View to a Kill" in the attic. They should have left it there.

That should be "Licence to Kill". I knew I should have looked it up before posting.

Forgot one. WSIM was listed as "soft adult contemporary" in Wikipedia. Not any more. I heard "Firework". So much for my attempt to find something until WEZV was clear.
