Louisville I wonder what alt 105.1 apology is

If there is research influencing this decision to change morning shows, it’s more likely a broad demo (say 18-54s) market study was done to understand the strengths/weaknesses of the stations in the cluster & their competitors.

A common move among radio groups in the cluster era has been to do these marketwide perceptual studies going into acquisitions. Alpha did this regularly in their early years when they had resources. Connoisseur in years past has been a consistent buyer of programming research.

Of course radio budgets aren’t what they were just a few years ago so this is just conjecture.

In this hypothetical, they would probably do one study for DJX/Rose/Alt and a separate one for B96/Magic to get enough sample to reflect the ethnic balance needed for the cluster.

Having worked for Cumulus and Townsquare in similar sized markets like Louisville., you'd be surprised how little research they do before making wholesale changes...id argue the market already has a very well known, established, and even heritage Public station and AAA offering that makes a commercial Alternative station a hard sell. Plus Connoisseur has a Hip hop, CHR and Urban station...hard to package the Alternative station with those sales wise...maybe with their AC but thats a pretty big ask.

At the risk of implying that you missed my point, Connoisseur is neither of those companies, they have just grown exponentially, and are much more likely to do research on newly acquired stations and markets that they were not owners in previously.

And neither you or I know for certain if that was the case here or not. I am guessing every bit as much as you are.

Just an aside, has anybody noticed their playlist in recent months? They've expanded it significantly, just looking at their playlist from the past few days, they've played Billy Idol, Peter Bjorn and John, Elvis Costello, Cypress Hill, The Clash, Kate Bush, Depeche Mode, The Smiths, The Cure, and the one that really surprised me, Eminem. First time I heard Eminem on there (a few weeks ago), I thought they were going through another format change.

It's a bit of a refreshing change up, if people are listening.

They are squarely in the alternative lane again. The active rock lean is completely gone.

I lack confidence the current approach to the music will work in Louisville. I do like the decision to dump Woody from mornings.

The "Alt" branding is a loser locally. I'm surprised that wasn't tossed to the curb when the playlist leaned more nu metal / straight ahead rock.

I have never heard the smiths there is a light that never goes out aside from a triple A station...I saw it on there playlist on the website. Well done alt 105.1😁😁😁Hopefully it works but Louisville it seems would rather here the latest offering from three days grace or whomever then say a old school Smiths tune...But time will tell...
