I would like MTX to do this...

Star 98.7 in L.A just brought back the New Rock ALternative format. I would love to see CC bring that format to 100.7. MTX has gotten very stale for what I expect of their format. The old Star 95.7 did well in Tampa.
Star 98.7 sample:
Hella Good - No Doubt
Dance, Dance - Fall Out Boy
Head Over Feet - Alanis Morissette
Boulevard of Broken Dreams - Green Day
Bad Day - Daniel Powter
The One I Love - R.E.M.
Bring Me to Life - Evanescence
High - James Blunt
When I'm Gone - 3 Doors Down
Beverly Hills - Weezer

WMTX:
Some Guys Have All the Luck - Rod Stewart
Hand in My Pocket - Alanis Morissette
You'll Think of Me - Keith Urban
Mony Mony - Billy Idol
One Of These Nights - Eagles
When I'm Gone - 3 Doors Down
Summer of '69 - Bryan Adams
Behind These Hazel Eyes - Kelly Clarkson
Just What I Needed - Cars

I have to be honest that I really hate the urban format on 95.7FM. I agree that the alternative rock format which was the former Star 95.7FM did great in Tampa. I dont think they should bring it to WMTX. I think The Beat should be axed. Bring back Star 95.7FM, also take 98Rock and make an all male talk format such as a Real Radio format. And take Mix 100.7 and make it the new active rock with an entirely new image because 98Rock is old.

Like it or not, the Beat isn't going anywhere. It siphons listeners away from Wild and helps FLZ. Kapugi actually posted that on this very board.

The problem with Mix is that they change the focus every book. When Star first went away, Kurt and Christy moved over from Star and the music moved more in Star's direction, but that has changed numerous times. Plus the "whatever weekends," aired to deter anyone from putting a JACK format on in the market, further diluted the focus.

And the silly thing is, no one was going to go JACK here anyway. Q105 would have been the candidate, and it would have to have been over Mason's dead body (ever hear his rants about how WCBS went from a $40 million station to a $15 million-and-sinking-fast station since the flip?)
______________

You nailed it. Like it or not The Beat works and a LOT of money has been spent the last 2 1/2 years to promote it. It aint going anywhere. Mix is basicly a mess. They tried to make everyone happy by keeping the morning show, bringing over Kristy Knight and tweaked the music in Star's direction. Guess what? It didn't work. The problem I hear is they seem to always be programming from a "scared" or defensive position. Why this station isn't going head on with a competitor and sticking with what they believe will work is beyond me. Star suffered from bad programming and now Mix going down the same road. Bye Bye Mix... say goodbye in 2006.

So what do guys think Mix will become?

Here is my opinion:

92.5 - Sorry, I don't speak spanish but it sounds good.
93.3 - Sounds good when I listen.
94.1 - Just remember, it's a jazz station. Jazz being the key word.
94.9 - Not bad, though I don't listen alot.
95.7 - Once again, not bad, though I don't listen alot. I still wish Star was still around.
97.1 - Play more Indie bands...at least that's my wife's request. Other than that, great station.
97.9 - Should be adult rock. Let 97X have the younger audience.
98.7 - Fine the way it is.
99.5 - Sorry, I don't do country.
100.7 - If I hear Los Lonely Boys ONE MORE TIME! Rumba 100.7 anyone? As someone pointed out on this board a few weeks ago, "you'll see".
101.5 - Peronally, I think this should be left alone.
102.5 - Expand the playlist. Now I'm a big Pink Floyd fan but let's play something else.
103.5 - Remember? Don't do country.
104.7 - Great station. Though I would really like to see some 90s titles played. I say more of a 70s, 80s, early to mid 90s station, kind of what Q105 would have been like had Mason not left in 90 and not switched to country.
105.5 - I think that's what my parents listen to so automatically I can't listen. Just kidding, it's not bad if I liked that sort of thing, though not a preset on my radio.
107.3 - Pretty good station but does Cox really need 2 classic rockers? AAA should be here or better yet on 102.5.

Or even better move 97X to 102.5 or 107.3.

Do you guys really think CC is going to blow up Mix? Despite its poor ratings performance, I read all the time about how well it bills. I don't think they quite know what to do for the best at the moment, which is a shame for a station of such great possibility. It seems, recently, as though they've started to slide back towards more variety by adding more 80s tunes akin to the Whatever Weekend. I agree with the earlier poster that this just dilutes the focus. It's going to be interesting to keep an eye on for sure. Perhaps I've missed this in earlier posts, but who is programming Mix now?
______________

Here's what I think:

92.5 - Good format for the market. Leave it be.
93.3 - I wish they wouldn't doctor the beginnings of certain songs. Plus, I don't think that their playlist is expansive enough, but I factor that to the CHR/Pop format not being great right now. Other than that, not bad.
94.1 - Didn't listen much (and likely won't in the future--I'm boycotting CBS), but from what I did hear of it, I got more jazz overnights on WUSF.
94.9 - WAYYYY too much Delilah.
95.7 - Not bad. Olivia Fox is underrated.
97.1 - Great station, could be better if they didn't have the weak signal and limited playlist.
97.9 - Not bad, but again, a limited playlist.
(note: does it seem like that 97X seems to avoid the harder songs nowadays? Prime example: Disturbed. You only hear them on 98Rock anymore, but when X came out, there were a couple of songs by them on that station, but not anymore.)
98.7 - Don't listen to it at all.
99.5 - Ditto.
100.7 - Station needs a MAJOR overhaul. Like said earlier, the old Star format would work here.
101.5 - Can we just get rid of this station already? Besides, ever notice how it sounds like they are stuck in a tunnel? If not, then do something about the playlist? i.e.: a strictly 80's format, with an 80's feel, with actual personalities, and with an expanded playlist? Besides, what the hell is "We Will Rock You/We are the Champions" doing on this format anyway?
102.5 - Don't listen much, but the playlist could improve.
103.5 - Not big on country, but this one is fine.
104.7 - If they didn't have music from the sixties, I might listen. Oh, wait, that's right, I'm boycotting CBS. Other than that, not bad.
105.5 - Ugh.
107.3 - Don't listen to. Kinda bland to me.

THis is a strange market where COX beats CC at AC. CC has a winning formula for AC stations , but not here. Think WLTW, WLTM, WTVR, KOST , etc. CC needs to convert MIX to LITE 100.7 and bring in a programmer who knows how like Reggie Jordan or Scott Lindemann. They turned WTVR in Richmond into a ratings winner and COX cannot bring them down.

That's not "NEW ROCK ALTERNATIVE" that's "TODAY'S MUSIC ALTERNATIVE" different formats.

But WDUV had a head start, and Warm/Magic/once-again-voted-blahblahblah.. has been entrenched since its days at 107.3 (where it actually did better than it ever has at 94.9).
______________
