"I Write Sins not Tragedies"

I heard the song "I Write Sins not Tragedies" on a Clear Channel CHR station here in Tampa, and they edit out the word "God" in the lyrics. On a Cox-owned station, they leave the word in there. Is this just CC being overly cautious with what they air?

Could just be the version of the song the station recieved. The version we have on the Chart Breakers CD edits out the word God too. I'm sure the size of the market might have something to do with it as well. Seems like in larger markets you can get away with certain lyrics that you cannot in smaller markets.

I think that's the version CC is airing on all of their stations. WKQI in Detroit edits it out as well.

I still find it somewhat ironic (and sad, really) that the word "God" gets edited out and "damn" is considered acceptable ;D

It's not just Clear Channel. Y101 in Jackson edits out "God" and they're owned by New South. Every station I heard play the song edits out "God".

Most alternative stations don't play the edited version of "I Write Sins..." I've noticed pop stations are more strict about this song, especially Clear Channel.

Yeah, the station playing the unedited version I heard is 97X, an alternative rock station.

There are, of course, more controversial words than God. God is probably edited just to not interfere with religious beliefs.

As far as damn, it is in the group of words like ass, hell, whore, and bitch. Radio stations have the option to play those words or not.

For example, like Eminem's "Just Lose It", he says "yeah boy shake that ass". Some stations played "ass", some played "butt", and some just edited it completely. It was the company's and radio station's decisions ot keep that word.

Same goes with "sound-alikes", most common offenders being Black Eyed Peas' "Don't Phunk With My Heart" or in {ussycat Dolls's "Buttons" where it sounds like "Hollywood type of "fu*ker", while not as bad, was and still is edited on some radio stations.

But very offensive words like fu*k, sh!t, and so on, radio stations have no option but to eliminate them completely.

In PCD, look up the lyrics, it's "Fall for" not "****a." Thought it does sound like it. Othewise the FCC would be handing out 9000 fines a week.

With Panic, "God" is not offensive. No one would edit that out. It's the G-D. Same thing TBS and all the Turner stations edit. Even on TBS you'll hear "Damn" but not G-D.

And don't think CC is being heavy handed. A lot of people on here think CC says we HAVE to play a certain version. Not at all. But there is a central server where we can download music from. And most times (especially if you start playing a song early) there'll only be one version. You can still play another version if you have it (or do the edit yourself). I took the "ass" out of "My Humps" since there wasn't an edit at the time.

anyone here jumping on Lying is the most fun... by P!ATD?

Kiss in Cleveland played the edited version for about the first 6 weeks the song was out, then for about a week switched to the un-edited version. Then it was back to the edit version.
I always wondered why they switched it a few times...
