whats up with there ratings are they going to even try to compete in the market?? why flip if you dont have a plan??

??? ??? ???

They're already at a 1.6, beating stations like KLIF-AM, ESPN, The Fan and a ton of others. They're within a couple of tenths of The Edge, about half a point behind the Eagle, both long time established stations.

And they've already gotten a cume audience of over 600K. That's good enough for about 15th in the market. What did you expect them to do in (how long have they been on now?) 6 months?

If you want to talk about stations flipping with no plan, look at the Fan. They're about a year ahead of 93-3 in the product life cycle, and yet 105.3 is doing worse (with a much better signal) than 93.3 is doing.

Both are going up against long-time market leaders, but i93 already has better ratings and double the number of listeners...

it's posts like this that i just don't get. Can you people not read ratings charts? Do you not understand what cume is and why it's important?

For a straight ahead CHR/Pop station to post these numbers after about 6 months is very LOW. And Dallas is a market where CHR/Pop does very well...The top rated station in the market is 106.1 Kiss FM with nearly a 6 share, and a cume of over 1.6 million listeners.

Let's look at the status of other recently converted CHR/Pop stations around the country:
98.7 Amp Radio Detroit already has a 4.0 share with nearly a million listeners (good enough for 5th in cume).
Baltimore's Z-104.3 is also up to nearly a 4 share, and is ranked 6th in cume.
Salt Lake City's 107.9 The Mix, which evolved from Hot AC to CHR/Pop is AHEAD of heritage CHR 97.1 KZHT wih a 4.7 share, and ranks 4th in cume.
Lastly, there's 95.7 The Vibe Kansas City, which evolved from Rhythmic CHR to CHR/Pop, which retained about a 4 share, and ranks 6th in cume.

Bottom line, I-93.3's under performing for the format it's chosen.

i93 may be beating The Ticket 6+ but I highly doubt they are beating The Ticket Men 25-54. As far as beating KLIF and ESPN - that is no great feat.

It's relatively cheap to operate, is already drawing about equal to/better than The Bone with a younger overall cume, and is taking a bite out of KHKS and KDGE, thus ClearChannel. I'm guessing Cumulus is OK with its performance to date given all those factors.

If it does very well, why have we only had one CHR station for years and years?

And there's a huge difference in converting from Hot AC or R-CHR to straight CHR and changing from Classic Rock to CHR. I'm guessing i93 had to shed all the old Bone listeners then go out and strat drawing in new listeners. As opposed to having a large group of format-friendly listeners already there and just tweaking the music somewhat...

Bottom line, I-93.3's under performing for the format it's chosen.
Arguable. See Mediawonk's comments...

Who said anything about beating the Ticket anywhere? The reason I mentioned KLIF and ESPN are both are stations that have been around for at least a decade. And i93 is already beating them (maybe not by much, but in the last book posted on R-I by at least a few tenths) after 6 months on the air.

Without knowing what Cumulus's expectations are/were, I'd guess that they're happy with it, for the reasons Mediawonk cited.

KHKS-FM is just a monster of a station. It's just done right insofar as giving DFW a mass appeal CHR outlet. The same was true in L.A. for so long with 102.7 KIIS-FM yet over the past year 97.1 Amp Radio has come on the scene there pretty strongly, proving that there may be room for 2 CHRs there.
The last time Kiss FM had a direct competitor was when 100.3 FM was doing CHR. I don't think it's ratings were ever all that stellar, but they were at times a formidable competitor for Kiss. That doesn't seem to be the case these days - Kiss's ratings have hardly been affected by the changes at 93.3, at all.
