Maurice Devoe... Interesting choice...

Very...Could they be ramping up for a run at K104 and/or 97.9 the beat

Makes one wonder. He's still over the urban format for Cumulus...

Is it room for three urban stations. I have seen on this board that 93.3 would be a good stick for an urban station. Remember 93.3 was going to be KRNB if the Susquehanna/Service deal to the city of Dallas for WRR was ever done. It seems the 93.3 is doing ok at top 40.

For some reason, I believe i93 would go rhythmic before they would try the full-fledged urban approach.

Mo's the urban format captain at Cumulus, but The Vibe in KC has oscillated between CHR-mainstream and CHR-rhythmic for quite some time. So, I wouldn't say him going there means I-93 is going urban. It's certainly possible, but it's by no means guaranteed.

Maurice Devoe has done Top 40 in the past so its a good choice. I know hes gotta be happy to leave KC finally. He was in Texas before. Houston's defunct Power 97.5

Good riddance! I live near KC and I never really cared for him when he was on 95.7. Hopefully he won't screw up i93 for you guys.

@Kent-The Vibe, when it started in '05, was full blown Rhythmic, but Mainstreamed in '09. I wasn't happy with the decision, but probably because KC isn't "black" enough to go against the locally-owned heritage urban station.

That wasnt Maurice choice to go CHR. It was Cumulus Jan Jeffries and the GM that flipped 95.7 back to CHR. It was worse when Syncom owned them and Dave Johnson was the PD. Yes Rhythmic CHR has never been stable in Kansas City. Maybe its the money. Plus all the layoffs Cumulus had a few years back is the reason why the station is lacking. Ratings wise they improved since moving into that direction. As far as a jock didnt really care for him on air either because it was VT most of the time. But he does have alot on his plate as OM for the Kansas City Cumulus stations and Urban programing.

They also brought in Jeff Miles to V/T from Q100 in Atlanta.

It's been about 24 months on 93.3, it's high time for a format flip. How many formats have been on 93.3 past 10 years. People in the biz can't even keep up with it, much less the public.

It has had 3 formats in the last 10 years -- classic rock "93-3 the Bone" for 7 and a half years starting at the beginning of 2002, 4 months with the AAA "Quality Rock" (4/27/2009-9/1/2009), and now 34 months as CHR KLIF-FM (it debuted 9/4/2009; it is almost 3 years).

Why flip a format that's doing as well as i93 appears to be doing? They're 17th in the 6+ ratings, which doesn't seem like much, until you realize they're about tripiling the Fan's ratings, and beating so called heritage call letters like WBAP, KRLD, The Eagle, etc.
Not to mention they're the 3rd highest cuming station in the market. It's harder to sell cume than TSL, but sheer numbers are still worth something...
