I96 gets Maxed

After several months of weekend specials on Grand Rapids's WVTI "I96" (Adult CHR/Hot AC) I96 got demolished by Clear Channel for full time Variety Rock/Hits as "96.1 Max FM" as of today.

And I thought CC wasn't going to jump on the Variety Hits format. This must have been a local decision since I remember the corporate people mentioning they weren't getting on the Variety Hits format, unless they had a change of heart on that.

Seems to me that there are a few other CC stations that are doing VH out there.

CC-VH

true- I think they're doing it in Des Moines, Columbia SC and Louisville. Might be more than those.

Just a few, but it isn't exactly exploding on CC properties as of yet. I think the Grand Rapids station will be a litmus test of sorts. I believe it is one of the largest playlist sets that is available on a Jack-type station (quoted at nearly 2,000) and includes elements of soul, classic rock and oldies that are sorely lacking on many Jack stations.
