Ibiquity Seeks To "Globalize" IBOC/HD Radio
In a surprising development, Ibiquity has announced Perry Priestley will head up efforts to expand IBOC/HD to international markets. DRM has a commanding lead in digital AM/FM internationally, and it's hard to understand why Ibiquity is devoting resources to international expansion when, by Ibiquity's own admission, they are doing a terrible job of promoting IBOC/HD in the United States. Ibiquity has even admitted it is up to individual stations and not Ibiquity to promote IBOC/HD radio.
And now they're planning to expand IBOC/HD to foreign markets? It's like a high school kid who's flunking algebra talking about how much money he's going to make when graduates from Harvard. . . . .
At any rate, I hope you enjoy jousting with those windmills, Perry, and be sure to tell Sancho I said hello.

Luftschlösser - Castles in the Air, that's what I think of Ibiquitys plans.
It will be a miserable failure for two reasons:
First, DRM is now chosen in the most important markets as the default digital mode ( Europe & Asia ),
second, development of DRMPlus has started and since it comes from the same consortium, one can safely guess, that this will be chosen as an FM-replacement in 2009.
And third, Simulcast (IBOC), one of Ibiquitys main selling points, won't happen here in Europe, as it simply doesn't work.
Experts opinion about Simulcast can be summarized into: It sucks like a black hole.
Finally, with DRM-Receivers going on sale for this years christmas, it looks like, the train already left the station - With Ibiquity just watching the backlights disappear...
Regards
Nohab.
