Ibiquity wants your opinion

Did "iNiquity" hire Jacobs to do this survey? Or does Jacobs own a piece of it?

I can't imagine any other motive for them to be doing this. Anybody who can see the situation clearly knows that "HD" is dead. (And they really should bury it -- the stench of the corpse is becoming overwhelming!)

I think they already know my opinion, so I'll not waste the bandwidth or anyone's time.

I got the feeling they were looking for someone to blame when the questions started about what role The Radio Alliance as played or have broadcasters don’t enough.
Stage 4 has arrived. Look for stage 5 next, punishment of the innocent.

The first week of my very first media job, a friend sent me a short list called ‘The 6 Stages of a Project’. It said that every project goes like this…

1. Enthusiasm.
Yup HD was going to save radio

2. Disillusionment
You don’t have to look far too find it. Just look at the lack interest from listeners.
The Alliance is shooting for their one millionth HD radio sold at the end of 2008. Considering they only sold 330,000 in 07 that’s a big increase..

3. Panic
Three words my friends, global, economic meltdowns.
I’d say there’s some panic.

4. Search for the Guilty
Radio Alliance, broadcasters, Kevin Martin, They all seem guilty.

5. Punishment of the Innocent
Listeners spending $200.00 for radios that don’t really work.

6. Praise and Enthusiasm for the Uninvolved

Broadcasters who didn’t suckered into HD. You’re so smart.

Chuck informed us:

Today, I received an email from Ibiquity asking me to take a survey about HD radio. They specifically asked for me to inform others about the survey, saying "We want as broad a cross-section as possible." So here it is:
www.jacobsmediaonline.com/ibiquity.

Wow, what a great survey! Since you don't have to give your name, I wonder how many small and large market engineers are going to give them an earful. It will be interesting to see the results of the survey.

I wonder why they don't want the consumer's opinion? I filled it out until the end when they started asking what type of jib did you have etc. ::)

Do you think they will actually publish the results? Perhaps they will release selective results that validate whatever point they wish to make, but I'd be very surprised if the full report ever sees the light of day.

here's my oppinion. straight to the point. hd radio sucks. the reception sucks, sound quality is not what they claim. and it is a waist of money. so there you go and don't even waist your time trying to increase the power. you would be stealing from the analog signal. there you go. i am done here. hd radio not worth the time and money.

Speaking of iBiquity, I wonder if the company has already burned through their latest loan of 15 million?

http://venturebeat.com/2008/03/28/i...yet-another-round-to-fuel-hd-radio-ambitions/

According to the above article one of Ibiquity's investors is JP Morgan. That says a lot about the lending institution's financial troubles.

I'm no banker but I am a firm believer in the homily about 'not throwing good money after bad.' Apparently, JP Morgan isn't.

Just select "Other" and put "listener" in the box. :)

They may not want to hear from listeners, but they NEED to hear from them whether they want to or not.

I don't think your opinion is in the minority here. ;D

HD Radio will:

1-Save the world from the current financial crisis.

2-Elect President George Bush to a third term.

3-Eliminate homelessness, and allow dispossessed homeowners to return to their homes.

4-Cure the common cold.

5-Improve analog radio reception.

6-Restore real estate values.

7-Feed the hungry.

8-Eliminate crime and sin.

9-Spread peace, joy, love, happiness and harmony throughout the world.

10-Repay the national debt.

11-Whiten your teeth.

12-Provide jobs for all the unemployed.

13-Create utopia.

14-Jam radio stations with digital hiss.

iBiquity has not yet convinced me about the first 13 points.

Good idea, thanks.

HD radio= the technology of the BETAMAX! Flopped pretty bad ,didnt it?
Heres a thing that nobody wants or needs,tI hate to say this but the sound quality is
likle an internet stream,Analog fm sounds superior if processed correctly to HD radio, didnt they test this thing first? The sound of XM and sirius are just like HD,its less than FM.....

XM had a 'smoking' audio signal in the early days - they need to have more bandwidth for that, so they need to dump 1/3 of their channels, then they can have CD+ quality again.

The difference is the Betamax actually worked quite well (and survives today in a broadcast format). VHS was actually an inferior product. The reason Beta flopped with consumers was because Sony made the technology proprietary and had expensive licensing agreements with anyone else who manufactured it. I think Toshiba was the only taker. VHS, on the other hand was easily and cheaply licensed and hordes of consumer electronics manufacturers got on board. Sound familiar?

Another difference between either of these formats and HD is they were something the public anxiously wanted to purchase. When they first came out, there were actually waiting lists to get a VCR. That does not seem to be the case with HD, at least so far.

I will agree that the sound quality of HD is not always that good, especially on the secondary channels. Even when it is good, it isn’t a significant enough improvement to make people run to the stores to get a new radio. Some of that can be blamed on the taste of the listening public. The usually mentality is “louder is better.” Not many people are educated enough n audio to even know what to listen for.
