Hello all
I was down at NAB Philly
and went into the HD booth.
I had asked If I could listen to WPEN On the Kenwood receiver they had On display. this receiver was under $400..
I explained to them that I did not Like the way the HD sounded with the Old Codec. and was told that WPEN was using the New Codec.
Just Before I put on the headphones the Ibiquity guy Russ made the Comment.
and Ill QUOTE him" Just remember who the source is" figuring that he ment WPEN had shitty Analog audio.( was he hinting to that WPEN's Engineers dont know what they are doing??? I dont know what he ment by the Comment)
I never Heard WPEN before.... well first off I tuned to 710 WOR and Heard its Analog audio Pretty well..the receiver Did Not lock onto WOR's HD signal
so No comment. However I then switched to 950 WPEN and WOW
the Analog On this receiver actually sounded really good. at that Point I could not understand Russ's Comment about " you have to remember who the source is" then the receiver switched to HD mode.. I could not help but start to Laugh.... OMG It sounded Like (BLEEP)....Like a Very bad MP3...
The Analog Sounded SO MUCH BETTER...
IM Sorry IBOC really sounded BAD Yeah "remember who the source is" =Ibiquity)
It might sound good on WOR?I have not heard its HD with Talk..
But WPEN's music in HD... GAG me.. NO way Do I believe the Problem is with WPEN's Audio chain with the Analog sounding decent...
They can keep IBOC On the drawing Board. THey still have not made me a Believer..
BTW I also tuned into a few local FM's with the HD.. they actually sounded pretty good.. No complaints on the FM side From me YET...

Re: IBOC at NAB - Multicast ?

Have you seen or heard a demo of "Multicast" ?

I sent my Kenwood KTC-HR100 receiver back to
the factory for an upgrade so it could receive
multicast, but I haven't put it back it the car yet.

The whole thing is pretty worthless where I
travel. No stations locally have IBOC, and
the few Philly stations that have it aren't
ones I would listen to anyway. The FM IBOC
signal only seems to cover about 1/2 of the normal
analog range of the station. Yeah - it does
sound good when it kicks in.
