I understand Iceland was one of the last countries to switch to color.

And they used to shut down entirely during the country's midnight sun festival.
 
That is not much later than in Western Europe BTW. The last live black and white broadcast in the Netherlands was Easter Mass from Rome somewhere in the early 1980's.
The tradition not to air in the Summer excisted in the Netherlands from 1951 to 1960 as well. In Iceland they closed for Midsummer until 1986 or 1987.

If you don't count the UK's shutdown of the old 405-line VHF B&W system in January, 1985.

Israel was the last major country to switch to full time color broadcasts in 1983, not surprising since they didn't start regular TV broadcasts until 1968(!).
