IDC Satellite Receivers

Is anyone having problems with their IDC receivers they received in place of their Starguide.

The first unit I received the unit locked up and then the power supply died. The second unit seams to work, except if I try to chance the channel to another, the unit does not respond to the command and goes back to the channel I am on. The only fix I found, was rebooting the receiver.

I am getting ready to place a sticker on it labeled "Designed for Windows 98 First Edition / Windows ME"

I miss my Starguide!!!!

Also, does anyone have a remote control program to change the channels via the serial port based on timed events. We can not get more than one unit, so recording shows requires using their web interface or keypad.

The IDC receiver roll out by Westwood is for the Sports channels ONLY at this time. The IDC receivers are definitely beta! Why Westwood didn't get user input before rolling this out is anyone's guess. Gee, using 1/4" jacks for the output instead of mating with the DB-15 Starguide standard is a BIG problem when converting racks of these receivers. Plus the IDC only has ONE card output!
Someone didn't quite understand HOW this equipment is used in a real station.
AND doing the conversion during the NCAA games is plain dumb.
Broadcast Tools controller will probably mate to this receiver in the future. I have had the receiver go full distorted audio output or no audio, and needing to keep rebooting before it settles on "normal." geeee....
The stated pluses of this receiver, inserting regional spots, LAN connection, HD, etc. ---well big deal the Starguide III with EDAS card does all these features. Of course, Westwood/CBS didn't want to being giving the CC owned Starguide people anymore money for their system.

CBS has been getting better at shooting themselves in the foot.

These boxes are mostly computers, anyway, so they get computer geeks to build them. Unfortunately, those folks live in their own virtual world and usually haven't a clue about anything off screen. The early Starguides had some similar problems--not enough RF section for those of us not directly under the satellite, like the folks in California. (Well, it's over the Pacific, but you know what I mean....)

Didn't like having to string CAT-5 through the attic over to our DSL modem so our Premier Starguide could call home, but its held up well until Verizon (our neighbor on the hilltop) started pumping extra data into their terrestrial carrier.
