Idea for a New Channel - AirChecks

Wouldn't it be cool for Sirius/XM to devote a channel to air checks? No, not stuff from the recent past... but to going back 20-40 years to some of the classic Boss Radio-type formats and big name announcers from around the country.

Maybe start out with a Robert Osborne on TCM type introduction and give us samples of some of the truly classic radio...

For my money this would be much more interesting than listening to old Jack Benny or George Burns classic radio show?

What does the Board think?

Why not program airchecks into the Decades channels weekly schedule? A couple of hours a week, maybe on weekends.

Gotta figure there are more of us "geeks" out here, as well as folks who would enjoy listening to the nostalgia of that time... Certainly more than there are "geeks" listening to 1940's era radio shows they have on there... or some of the other incredibly niche channels.

As far as copyrights, most of this stuff is already out there on the net... and many of those broadcasting companies aren't even around anymore.

Didn't the old XM 60s do Friday evening "recreations" for a while? I recall a featured classic Top 40 staton each week, with music, aircheck clips and jingles interspersed with Terry Young doing some chatter like he was on the air back then. It was a cool concept, but I guess they decided not to continue it. If they could do that, I don't know why they couldn't just take some old airchecks, put the scoped-out music back in and roll 'em. Yes, it's geeky and it probably isn't worth doing more than a couple hours on a weekend, but i think it would be kinda coool.

Yes they did. I loved the "Sonic Sound Salutes" XM did with Terry Young. One of the reasons behind my decision to drop the service was the removal of this feature.

If SiriusXM had a channel like this, I would also love to hear full length classic airchecks from the 80s & 90s of CBS-FM plus WABC airchecks from the Musicradio 77 Days.

I'm going to let my Sirius sub run out and use the coin for an internet radio; there is an internet radio station called 'rewoundradio.com' that has WABC airchecks about every week; they take live requests via email (unilike Sirius XM - XM 70's USED to) and have several quality levels of audio feeds, some really decent sounding. www.rewoundradio.com is what I was hoping SXM would offer some day as a new XTRA channel!
