Ideas for KYW-TV (CBS 3)

This is just my opinion on how I think KYW's Eyewitness News should be run. Maybe they should use a version of the theme from "Rocky" since in a way it's like one of Philadelphia's other anthems just like the Action News theme. And KYW really should refer to themselves as KYW-TV instead of CBS 3 because I feel that the latter seems way too corporate. And maybe they should give a nightly slot to a station veteran like Beverly Williams instead of hiring newcomers to the city of Philadelphia and people from other stations. If they can work this way, maybe they can pose a challenge to the other two stations.

Personally, I wouldn't change anything with KYW as they are the best newscast in the market, and blow the doors of of WCBS which Diane Doctor is running into the ground. KYW is one of the few CBS o&os that is doing things right. You should consider yourself lucky that they don't have a Doppler 3 Million and just the weekend people who have AMS seals.

As of the Rocky theme who do you think you are, Moses Znaimer?
The Rocky theme will always be the CityPulse theme to some of us!<P ID="signature">______________

On the strength of Newsradio 1060, KYW probably is a stronger brand name - especially for news.

If the staff got to vote, one change might be replacing Bob Kelly. Of course, given the recent calibre of his fill-ins, his job may be safe.

I agree about droping the CBS3 tag, and going back to KYW3. Maybe take a cue from channel 6, with the whole 'channel 6' during the news, but '6abc' during the rest of the day.

How about this compromise: "KYW/CBS-3"??

This way, Viacom/CBS/Infinity gets the network/channel branding, but KYW's heritage call letters (and a strong brand in Philadelphia news) also get mentioned.

Same thing happened up in Boston. You had WBZ-TV become CBS4.

Go Sox! Go Pats!

And I have suggested on the New England TV Board ("WBZ/CBS-4") that WBZ do the same thing!

KYW did try Beverly Williams as an anchor. They had her doing weekends for a while in the late 90s. They had to get rid of her because she couldn't pronounce anything. She would slobber all over everything! I don't she could pronounce her own name without getting tongue-tied!

They had a veteran team, Larry Kane and Carol Erickson, and were branded as KYW for a long time. They were a distant third in ratings, even before younger and from a rival station Larry Mendte and meteoroligist Kathy Orr, and eye-candy out of towner Alycia Lane, joined the station. Either way, they still can't top WPVI.

There was also that time she was doing the "At This Hour" news cut in at the top of the hour (about 1989 or 1990). She was sitting there waiting for her cue and started singing off key. She missed her cue and they came up to her live. You could hear the floor director snapping his fingers to get her attention and then an emphatically whispered "You're on!" Her eyes dropped to her script as she blushed bright red, she looked up at the camera and rushed through the update. I only wish we were rolling on KYW at that time (it was while I was working at WMGM). Neal, do you remember that night? <P ID="signature">______________
