IDMA Nominees are announced

I look over the list and again scratch my head. Ok Johny Budz finally gets some respect. Robbins got a lot of love which they deserve. How the hell does Cascada not get nominated for best pop dance track? When did Lucas Prata go HiNRG/Euro? Then Best new dance group, Liquid 360? I could probably go on and on. This hurts this genre. Where is the respect for the people that doing things. Cary Vance hands down should win indie promoter. Flip a coin with best in house promoter with John or Frank from Robbins both have done a great job. Best dance video? Where is Eric Prydz video that got a lot of good hype. Best remixer, notice no Valentin, Budz, Mynt(AL B Rich) Rizzo, Mr Mig Josh Harris Chris Cox, Jason Nevins got a vote?

The internet whores were at it again this year. They need to get this off online voting and put in the hands of people that are in the industry. If they want internet voting make it a percentage and thats it.

Your views are EXTREMELY subjective here.
You call others internet whores, yet you seem to be the biggest Cary Vance-(BLEEP) simply b/c you know him.
Cascada made it to other voting categories. Notice that DHT are listed, as is Madonna's record.
Lucas Prata has always been associated with a very Euro sound. This was only heightened after he did the American version of Haiducii's record. The whole "yeayeayeah" bit on his "And She said" record is very reminiscent of the Italo-Euro sound, duh!

As for Dance video, yuck the Eric Prydz video sucked. Deep Dish all the way!
If anything, why is BBC Radio 1 listed as a Dance channel (and they usually win too)? Even Kiss 100 hasn't been an all-Dance station since the mid 90s so WTF? LOL

Best remixer this year was most likely Jacques Lu Cont, you know the guy who also produced Madonna's album. Steve Angelo & Sebastian Ingross were also favorites of the big DJs this year (not just the "internet whores"), and with all due respect the big DJs opinions matter much more then yours.

Here are my votes:
Best Underground Dance Track: "Air For Life" by Above & Beyond Vs. Andy Moor. Not really underground, but certainly more underground then Mylo and Eric Prydz.

Best Alternative Rock/Dance track: The Killers "Mr. Brightside". The Jacques Lu Cont Remix was amazing, HUGE on the dancefloors, and big on lots of European radio stations (including many CHR/Pop stations in France).

Best Latin Dance Track: Rihanna "Pon De Replay", although Shakira's "La tortura" was just as good.

Best Euro track: Cascada "Everytime We Touch"

Best House Track: Red Carpet "Alright", although this one's been out pretty much every year LOL.

Best Urban Dance Track: Missy Eliott "Lose Control"

Best Rap Track: Kanye West "Gold Digger"

Best Progressive track: "Without you Near" Markus Sculz with Gabriel & Dresden

Best Breaks track: Prodigy "Voodoo People". A classic from the mid 90s with excellent remixes.

Best Dance Pop track: Hands down for me it was Bob Sinclair "Love Generation". Great vocals, excellent rich production, a Jamaican twist, great chorus, and that infectious "dum dum, dada dum" guy in the background.

Best American DJ: Christopher Lawrence, although this was a fantastic list of DJs as I'm a fan of all of them. Roger and Danny have been at it forever with legendary residencies (like when Roger Sanchez had a residency at Cream in the mid 90s). Morillo's Ibiza residency and parties are the stuff of legends. Deep Dish are amazing at playing a broad spectrum of EDM during their long sets. Markus as well as G&D, what can I say - I love their style.

Best European DJ: Ferry Corsten, especially since I saw him 2 nights ago, hehe. And also because John Digweed wasn't on the list.

Best Global DJ: John Digweed, FTW!

Myspace Best internet Dance station: ETN.FM is my fave of the bunch at the moment, although I love 1club.fm and DI.FM

Best Dance Radio stations: Since C-89.5 Seattle isn't listed (or stations like X-FM Holland and Beat 100.9 Mexico City) I'm gonna go with Energy San Francisco

Best Dance radio Mixshow: Armin Van Buuren's A State of Trance.

Best Satellite Dance radio station (LOL@this category, they all listed ALL the stations): Area 33.

Best Dance video: Deep Dish "Say Hello"

Best CD compilation: Ultra Dance 06

Best Full Length Mix CD: In Search of Sunrise 4 - Tiesto. One of the best compilations I've bought in a long time.

Best Producer: Jacques Lu Cont

Best Remixer: Jacques Lu Cont

Best New Dance Artist Solo: Cascada, although Juliet's a good choice too.

Best New Dance Group: Freemasons

Best Dance Artist: Madonna. This is such a no-brainer.

Best Dance Group: Chemical Brothers.

Best Dance Music Retailer: Beatport.

Best Record Pool: Balance. Chris Fortier is a great guy, originally from Orlando. A leading and longtime Progressive DJ and producer, as well as one of the best promoters the US has ever had.

Best Dance Publication: Mixmag. Fun Free CDs every month, fun party reports from around the globe, broad charts and reviews section, and fun DJ interviews.

Best Record Label Promoter: John Parker (I think you know what label he's with)

Best Indie Record Promoter: Cary Vance

Best US Dance Record Label: Ultra Records. This was hard, as Robbins, Yoshitoshi, and Subliminal all do a great job as well.

Best Global Dance Record Label: Subliminal.

Best Dance Event: Global Gathering

Best Event promoter: ID&T who do an outstanding job every year with the festivals in Holland. Spundae of course continue to do a great job, especially on the West Coast, in the US

Best Dance Club: Crobar New York

Best Global Club: Pacha, Ibiza

First off im not whoring anyone. Ask anyone who is in the business(something that you are not in, but think you are in) about Cary. I dont have to say anymore. And subjective? How am I being subjective? Lucas Prata is a pop dance artist always has been always was. You can ask the man yourself. You are not getting the point. Im point out that the nominees in a lot of the groups either dont belong or did nothing over the past year. Ill vent even furthur. Most of the people that won last year werent even there to accept the awards. Do you want to know why? Because they were playing at a gig instead of supporting the genre. How crappy is that? Plus they were there the next day for Ultrafest because they were getting paid. How can dance music be taken serious when this happens all the time? How can the public vote on promoters anyway?

Im not being subjective, Im being honest. I feel bad for the people that bust there ass in this industry, do the right things but at something like this they do not get the recognition they deserve. These awards are being whored. How about everyday receiveing a vote for me email in my inbox or now on myspace. I honestly believe they should set up a commitee to do the nominees. Once the nominees are selected let people in the business vote and they can still have an internet vote but let it be a percentage. You dont see the NFL for the hall of fame doing an internet vote do you?

BTW CHRles it will be great to see you at the WMC this year.

Dude, you're one of the best things Philly has going for it, but on a few occasions you really baffle me.

Artists not being there to pick up awards? Boo freakin hoo. Their first priorities are their FANS, not some plastic awards show. Instead of patting themselves on the back, they're more inclined to put on a show or spin for the people who voted for them in the first place.
Oh heaven forbid, they played at Ultra but didn't attend some awards ceremony.
Ultra has been running how many years now versus the IDMAs? Ultra is wayyyy more prestigious in the eyes of those DJs/producers then this little pat on the back game. In fact, Ultra has been so successful that this year Godskitchen are throwing their own event a week earlier.

As for your comments about feelings sorry for people not getting the recognition they deserve, are you sure?. You only know a few of the people, and I believe most of the names that were nominated have busted their butts, and invested a lot of time and money. Show them some respect too.

I'll be in L.A. around the time of the WMC (not the first time this has happened), but I wish everyone going to Miami to have a fun and safe time. I miss FL, but life's pretty good for me nowadays in Nashville.

Peace,
Charles

I'm with Brett on this one. I said it last year when they started the internet voting, it's stupid. How does somebody that is simply a fan of dance music know what kind of promoter someone is? Or who was the best Record pool? etc.

Let the public vote on the "fun" categories like Artist Achievement if they must but privatize the Business ones to those in the know. I also think that WMC should appoint a committee to pick that years nominees, hey if the grammys can do it in certain categories so can WMC. But I have enough of my own headaches to venture into this fight with them. ;)

As for Ultrafest vs The IDMA's, Ultrafest has not been around as long. Not even close. But they certainly are more interesting to the culture for 99% of the people.

Hope to see all of those going down to WMC. I think I'm doing 2 panels this year, MixShow (with Mike Setlock) and Marketing (with Dan Miller).

John, I think that what REALLY matters to you and Robbins is not an awards show, but rather the success your label has had with the masses.
If your biggest worry is voting methhods and certain categories for an an industry awareds festivity, then you're pretty much set in life ;)

you are not getting the point. Dance music needs nights like this to promote to the world. One of the biggest problems with dance music is a lot of times its faceless to the mainstream audience. Here is a perfect opportunity to show off our genre. Making the awards so legit would also help make the WMC more of a conference then just a party. Plus the recognition from your peers means a lot.

CHRles,

On an everyday basis you are correct about what matters more to Robbins and myself. But I also believe that if your going to do something it should be done correctly and not half assed. And I just don't believe that this is the correct way to have awards voted on. And I know I'm not alone.

Over the years, I've seen a lot of questionable decisions made in connection to the WMC. So, like I do to them every year I'm just voicing my concerns here. What they decide to do is up to them as it's their show.

Fair enough. The only way to push things forward and make things better is by raising the issues and putting them on the tabless. Regardless of whether or not I share these concerns, or rather their urgency, I respect yours and Dancerev's opinions.

As I do yours. And that's what makes this board worth coming to.
