Idol fever hits Christian AC radio

Nice to see that a song great for Christian radio is making the airwaves across the country from our latest American Idol winner. Carrie Underwood's "Jesus, The Wheel" is already number 1 at KLTY and at #17 on the R&R Christian AC chart. While some stations did play Kelly Clarkson's "A Moment Like This" and Clay Aiken's "Bridge over Troubled Water" this (Jesus Take the Wheel) will be the most successful Christian radio single from an Idol contestant.

I read that the "Jesus" single was not planned to even be released to Christian radio since Carrie is going after a country music career. The is already number one on country radio and could have amazing results on Christian radio as well.

It's playing pretty heavily at the Fish in Atlanta, too.

She's also getting lots of spins on the Fish in L.A... assuming nothing changes and the song continues to grow, she'll be in the Top 10 next week in R&R...

From what I understand this song is "testing" well with Christian AC and CHR listeners and has been added by a number of stations. It has a GREAT message and its a song that the listener can releate to.

Yeah, I saw the great test scores on Billboard's Hit Predictor (though I don't always trust their numbers)...

It's indeed a great song with a great message and Carrie is very genuine and likeable... people are looking for role models and she seems to be a great one... Given all there is to like, it's no wonder her debut CD "Some Hearts" went 2x platinum in just 7 weeks... the only downside at least from the Christian radio end is that there really isn't another song with the same message on her album that can feasibly be a follow up single... the next Country single, "Don't Forget To Remember Me" has some Christian references, but I don't know if it's "Christian enough" to get airplay... then again some of the new stuff from bands like Switchfoot and Relient K has done fine at Christian CHR without having the traditional Christian lyrics or message so maybe I'll be wrong.

anything for a buck ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ!!!! its a horrible song! is she even a christian?? this is where christian music is going to far! they want people to listen so bad they will play it just because it is an idol winner..a few years ago they played leann rimes! the industry needs to wake up and quit selling out!
______________
note to the NAB..satellite radio..its worth paying for!!

> anything for a buck ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ!!!!

Huh?

> its a horrible song!

Huh? It's a song of reconciliation that reached #1 in a secular genre/format...what could be better than that?

> is she even a christian??

As far as we know, yes!

A humble, sweet-spirited, chuch-goin' girl from rural Oklahoma...show downplayed it, but mom and grandma couldn't be shut up in the interviews they did!

I guess we can't be 100% sure, but everything we can see looks good to me.

> this is where christian music is going to far!

This is an audience and radio thing...I don't think the labels had anything to do with it!

> they want people to listen so bad they will
> play it just because it is an idol winner...

How odd! One of our own has a major positive accomplishment in the view of the largest audience in series television, and another one of our own attacks her for it! Man...!

> the industry needs to wake up and quit selling out!

We didn't "sell out"...we scored a big-time touchdown against one of the toughest defenses in the game!

[/Super Bowl weekend football allusions]

Personally, I wish there'd been a quick, less country remix/re-sing, but, ya know, not a big deal...

..a few years ago they played leann rimes! the industry needs to wake up and

By the way...just so you know...Kristy Starling remade the Leanne Rimes song, "I Need You." I believe Kristy's version is the one you heard on Christian radio.

Leanne Rimes

I've heard the original on a few stations, although it was before anyone had even heard of Kristy Starling; IIRC, acaza.com was even playing a dance remix of "Can't Fight the Moonlight" as well. It hasn't helped that Leanne has done some things to tarnish the "good girl" image.
