If 102.7 does away with K-Rock, what format might work?

It seems like S.A. is missing an alternative rocker and a dance format. Is it possible that a rythmic dance format could do better in the books than the modern/classic rock mix format that 102.7 has now?
KTFM was succesfull with dance, but abandoned it when The Beat came to town. 106.7 Jamz was unsuccesfull with Dance and did away with it. Why has the dance format been failing in San Antonio? I would think we could easily support it with our demographics.
Would it be a smart move for 102.7 to go back to dance (even though they have lost their very well-known call letters to BMP), or would it be like admitting they should've stayed original in the first place and therefore should find another format if they decide to switch again? I'm not saying they necesarilly need to flip, but a 2.1 in the latest arbitrons is very unimpressive.
Any thoughts?

KSRX was a lot higher in ratings when it was KTFM, I kind of doupt that anyone will realy go into a true dance format again. They should try to do something like Hot Z 95 in Corpus does, plays hiphop mixed in dance & like hurban. That would give the beat some comp. Its pretty bad, with a city like San antonio to have just one station to realy turn to for a mixshow over the weekends, when there use to be 3.

alternative is a really bad format to be starting right now. there are no breakout new artists. the big alterna-rockers now are playing maybe one or two new songs mixed with a whole bunch of "gold"... which for alterna is stuff like pearl jam, nirvana and stone temple pilots.

as for dance... it ain't gonna happen.

i think you are right. i liken the state of the alternative radio
format to what's occuring in the united states in that there really
isn't any consensus.

there were two movements that helped keep the
format alive and they were grunge and nu metal or rap metal. the two
genres worked seamlessly for alt radio. but, those musical styles
have pretty much run it's course. i think stylistically alt radio
is all over the place. you've got your retro synth pop(bravery, the
killers), emo (hawthorne heights) and their's the unclassifiable
My chemical romance..pop/punk/goth/emo.. and then there's the nu metal
left overs..papa roach, system of a down. oh, and we can forget the white
stripes..punk/blues. also, i think chr caught up to alt radio, or did
the industry lean more chr? what was once alt territory suddenly became
chr staples beginnig with and including: Hoobastank - "The reason",
Green Day - "Boulevard of broken dreams", Papa Roach - "Scars",
Killers - 1st and 2nd single....etc.

so, as you can see the format lines are being blurred. i like what krox
is doing in austin. shifting and adapting. harkening back to a KNAC era.
we have to wait and see if it pays off.

How 'bout 102.7 to hot AC or maybe Jack? 105.3 isn't hot AC, they're an '80s-leaning AC, like WFLC in Miami. If you want hot AC, maybe Mix 96-1 will shift to hot AC, and put 105.3 in the adult hits (or alternative) business.

you're right... the alt scene had a huge number of chr crossovers... hoobastank, green day... right now they could be heard on both krock and mix96.

Somewhere recently I read that Mark Landis (KROCK PD) denied rumors of any Infinity station flipping formats. KROCK will last. Hmmm 2. something a rock station? I dont know, maybe since CJ Cruz came to KROCK ratings will go up in the next peroid.

alt. rock would work if they didn't play the same crap as others in the format. they should follow the format of indie in L.A. that would work well here.<P ID="signature">______________
