Um, no one had problems finding 92.3 when Howard Stern was on the frequency from 1985-2005.
Plus, a large portion of the audience would tune away from the station after Howard's show (or when they got to work) and wouldn't tune back until the next Howard Stern show. I'll grant you that Howard became "appointment radio" over time and that his fans would seek him out wherever he would be on terrestrial signals.
(Satellite/subscription radio being a different animal altogether.)
While dial position may slightly matter more on analog tuners vs. digital tuners, it's content that matters - not dial position.
Given that the signals are more or less equal in this case, please give the public a little more credit in that they should be able to find stations/programs they'd like to listen to in the NYC metro area regardless of dial position.
