If everyone hates Nickelback so much, why does it still get airplay?

I can't figure out why anyone would like Nickelback. It's all WHJY plays now & all of their songs DO sound the same (bad). Guru/Upstate's right: rock radio IS dying, thanks to throwaway bands like Nickelback. As for other people who think we who dislike Nickelback just like metal &/or alternative, that isn't the case. As much as I like Motorhead, Maiden & Megadeth, I also like Weezer, Passion Pit, John Coltrane, Jimmy Cliff, Marley, Carolina Beach Music, Joan Jett, Nick Lowe, Steely Dan, old school rap, etc. etc.. The only reason that's made any sense that's been given is that Nickelback is "safe". They're not particularly good (each song sounds like some movie power ballad reject), but they're safe. Thank you to the poster who said certain bands in the past 4 decades were hated as well because most of those bands suck still. The only ones I see that seem to have any sort of imagination were Kansas & Styx. When you're a staple of a format, people get tired of your music because it gets shoved down their throats. Because of that, we now have the iPod culture. More musical variety & no shit you don't like. Simple as that.

I was watching Dean Cain's "Bloopers" and their hidden camera practical joker took twenty dollars from someone and was supposed to give him change. When the man asked for his twenty back, our hero didn't know what a twentyback was.

For whoever doesn't understand, see, one of the band members was always giving people a nickel back ...
