This group seems to care for all things radio...
Can you believe the hypocrisy, suspending Imus after so many years of his name calling?
After the suspension is up, what? then it's OK for McCain, Bill Richardson, Frank Rich to come back and hump their latest offering?
I really would like to hear what this group thinks.

Considering the name calling Rev Al Sharpton has done on his show and the campaign trail,it is indeed a system of double standards.

Plex I'm glad you pointed that out. Who the heck is Al Sharpton and Jesse (race bater) Jackson to start their crap. Oh wait there were black people "slammed" by a white air personality. I bet Al and Jesse would hate it if a few radio people let loose with some air checks of select audio of what these guys say on their shows about poeple. This shows that they are not out for equal rights for any body. Yeah Imus shouldnt have said what he did. I just wanna see equal treatment for both side of the free speech isle.

It's all about bringing down a powerful WHITE male. Remember when Jesse called NYC Hymietown? What about the Black woman who accused the Duke boys. Where's the outrage?

Imus was an idiot when he was on the air here, and he's still an idiot now.

Trust me on this boys... not just a gut feeling, but inside baseball... those double standard promoting profiteers have gone fishing in deep waters for too long without that big catch. For Imus, this ain't the last he will be hearing from lawyers and others that want him down.

Double standards exist and there is NOTHING anyone can do about it. Blame history, blame civics, blame anything... but don't point a finger at the standards. We just need to deal with it. As for dealing with on the radio, Charles is right. If you have the propensity to be stupid, you will always be stupid if surrounded by yes men. FCC has standards for a reason. You just can't say things like that in an open forum.

But what would happen if Chris Rock said something like that about white people on national TV? Would Jackson say that was wrong? And I can't help but to wonder, was Imus suspended or is it vacation time?

Gordon,

Chris Rock HAS. So has Dave Chappell and countless gangsta rappers.

PS: I just ate me some GORDON's fish sticks ;D

Equal? How many years did WE go without equal rights? Equal treatment? How many years did WE go without equal treatment? For years, we had to keep our mouths closed, or "pay the price" if we didn't. We even "paid the price", for looking at a white person the wrong way. Have you ever thought about what happened to us in the past will always have a long time affect on US? You act like we just supposed to forget all the stuff that happened, and just say, "It's ok". I think Al and Jesse is just making up for lost time when they had to keep their mouths shut and their eyes to the ground.

The only thing that Imus brought up that I agree with, was about the rappers using the same language. All of us need to stop using that type of negative language.

Buc, If I could type the strong fist, you know I would, brother.

All, this is why leaders in the African-American community believe that mainstream America doesn't have "the right to make jokes like that." This argument will never die so people just need to live with the standard and learn to be and live and do radio in the midst of it.

;)

BILL Cosby called upon African entertainers, singers to quit Using *N. He implored them to stay away from the use of 'HO". Bill Cosby drew more Ire from the rappers and comedians from "def jam" ,saying he was "too old school" an "oreo",and they should continue to say those words because. "they were keeping them REAL" .
Jesse jackson, Al Sharpton, - Locally Wiley Price,Lee Alcorn have used "Cracker", _ _ _ _ _ _wood,"whitey,etc. a lot on their shows or as guests in recent times as wel las the past. Was there a call for them to be fired??
No. If there was, then the public outcry would be called "racists"
Imus was wrong we all agree,BUT if a station in NYC can still have its hosts on the air after making fun of people drowning in a tsunami,or aggravating a guest hip hop star, who shoots another hip hop star an hour later, then Imus should stay on. Nobody died for his stupid comment.

This is whats wrong with Black society in America. The thought that generations long past the slavery years has to pay for something they had nothing to do with. If you are goin back to the 50's and 60's then when these guys are dead I guess we will be able to get outta living in the past mindstate. Buc I doubt you have ever lived a day in your life without the same rights as any other race in America. People need to quit holding the grudges of their great-grand and grand parents. There is no "get back". Jesse Jackson's Rainbow Coalition is no "Rainbow" of people he helps. The only reason Al Shaprton is who he is, is because of Tawana Brawley. She was a liar and so was he for standing up for her. How can the good Reverands ever be credible. I guess when you have a man of the "cloth" speaking the sheep will follow.

I apologize that this topic turned into a black/white discussion, it was intended to be about hypocrisy. Because of the MSNBC references I'll ask for latitude from the board moderator.

I find it interesting that MSNBC "fires" Imus after all the years. The show was always about verbal abuse and name calling; you fat b@stard, fat lying weasel, etc..MSNBC looked the other way as Don Imus called MSNBC talent sluts, wh@res, bimbos etc, to the point where they refused to work on his show.
How many times years has his producer done his very offensive black chick schtick and nothing was said or done.
Anyone see Joel Hollander on Imus the other day defending Imus? Think that was personal loyalty or bottom line? You tell me...
Anyone surprised that Imus talked about how many black African American kids have gone through his ranch? gotta wonder how he talked to them out at Ribera..
How many years has Imus acted like he is doing radio a favor... doing radio because it was his choice.. he could walk away at any time. Have you heard him this week? weak..sad. Stern said he is acting like he just got his first job in radio.
I'm not in the business but maybe I've grown jaded by loving radio since I was 3 (the subject of a future thread)
feedback?

Probably MSNBC understood that Imus has the microphone, and they (MSNBC) are helpless. It’s really not that much different from Letterman referring to NBC as weasels on his former Late Night w/ David Letterman show. I’m not sure that makes it right, but I guess the network people have thick skins when it comes to company inflicted puns by entertainers on their lineup.

I think Imus crossed the line with his remarks about the basketball team, and I am surprised he wasn’t fired for that. Perhaps Imus should have bolted over to one of the Sat Radio services, just like Stern did?

As soon as the announcement came out, the vultures were swirling over legal representation's desks asking for the draft of a contract. :)

Just terminate one's use of products from the companies who pulled their spots from Imus's show. He was wrong and has admited it repeatedly, sincerely, numerous times and he ain't done yet. When we give in to loud obnoxious voices who are guilty( some even more so)then all you do is promote and prolong racial divisivness. Sharpton and Jackson play to the Mic and camera, but do not practice what they preach. They practice drama, and deceitful drama at that.
Interesting ,IMUS raised over a Million Dollars for a charity in just a few hours today. How much did Sharpton and Jackson raise, other than for themselves at any given time?

I'm sorry for the way things turned out on this discussion, but I feel the way I feel, and that's it. Monkey, Plex, you have your opinions, and so do I. That's all I have to say......

Buc I respect your opinion. I really do. we disagree. I feel this whole thing was a debacle and today was a travesty. The airwaves have heard worse, and those who said it are still on the air.
