With only two companies controlling commercial radio in the QC, I am longing for the day that another company will enter the market. The market is an example of the blandness in programming that occurs when there is no competition in a market. If owned a broadcast company, these are the stations I would buy and the formats I would put on them.
104.9 KBOB- flip to variety hits, 104.9 The Bridge
98.9 WLKU- flip to Urban AC or back to top 40. Urban AC to fill a void in the market. There is a demographic in the QC and surrounding areas, such as Galesburg, that could use this station. It would be easier to sell this station than a hip-hop station. My other choice would be to go back to top 40 to go head to head with B100.
960 WDLM-AM flip to Spanish. With a growing spanish population, there is a real need for one of these stations.
1170 KJOC-AM flip to CNN news radio and keep the sports. Or, I would flip to Urban AC, and flip 98.9 back to top 40.
Thoughts?
